gpz6316, ignore the wind-up merchant. There always seems to be one busy-body with too much time on their hand to say something constructive and conducive for this forum.

Harrington said of Alpha Centauri, who was found to be clinically abnormal on examination post-race: “She got to the lead and she took a bad step. Whatever happened she took a bad step and then she took another one towards the end.

“She went there and whatever happened she did something, I saw it when I was watching it. She actually got to the front and I don’t quite know what happened then.

“It’d hard to know (if she is sound) as the adrenaline is pumping now. Unfortunately that’s racing and we’ll live to fight another day.”

Her rider Colm O’Donoghue said: “She did everything right. She quickened up and went half a length up, but then she lost her action and half-knuckled over for a stride or two.

“When she recovered she did it a second time. Fair do’s to the winner, though, as she’s a top-class filly in her own right as well.”

Did Sizing John and/or Our Duke from the same stable not found to be clinical abnormal after a race last season? If so, it is scary this unnatural and unexplained phenomenon is happening again at the stable, and Ireland.

Hope she recovers fully prior to her next run.

Best horse won under a great ride.

AC stumbled becasue she was in the red zone and under maximum pressure - nothing unlucky about the defeat imo.

Has gone to Fethard Equine Hospital in Tipperary. It looked as though she may have hurt herself when she faltered at that crucial stage of the race inside the last furlong.Could be making babies sooner that the owners thought.

All things considered Alpha Centauri ran a sterling race to be a close 2nd to Laurens. Hope she's not too seriously injured, and could come back for another race prior to retirement, if connections choose to.

Alpha Centauri and Saxon Warrior have both been retired, their connections revealed on Sunday afternoon.

Jessica Harrington said on Sunday afternoon that her stable star had chipped a bone in her fetlock when suffering a shock defeat at thenhands of Laurens in the Matron Stakes 24 hours earlier.

“They X-rayed her last night and redid her this morning and she’s got a chip in the front of her fetlock joint,” Harrington said. “No decision has been made yet whether she’s going to get surgery.

....

Coolmore said Saxon Warrior, the 2,000 Guineas winner, had suffered a tendon injury when a neck runner-up to old rival Roaring Lion in a pulsating Qipco Irish Champion Stakes.

Thought I was seeing things first time, but there's no way the horse was in front, let alone half a length up as Colm says.
