Ironically he would have got away with it if his infringement was confined to the runner up but coupled with the move across the other front runners cooked his goose.

andy tell me how many other races to your memory, has a winner been chucked for what happened between the last 2 flights in a race? i can't remember one, yes o'regan manouvre 2 out when trying to find space wasn't great riding but i cannot recollect a reversal like this before, add to which every race round that bend today into the straight at listowel i saw some interference

the interference wasnt 2 out,it was approaching the last, and i agree with punch, the manouvrve was borderline dangerous,i was suprised it took so long tbh.

If you watch it again DOR's horse is slightly awkward at the second last which kind of nudged him towards the eventual winner,DOR then decided he was going directly right irrespective of who or what was there already causing the well described concertina effect.

regan made no manoeuvre till midway between 2 and 1 out, that imo is classed as approaching the last.  is it not?

He would have got away with the initial slight bump but not part 2.

There was a similar disqualification a good few years back in Ireland. I can't remember the track or the name of the horse that I backed but he jumped across the runner up at the 2nd last hurdle causing the runner up to make a mistake. My horse was disqualified as the stewards decided if the 2nd hadn't made the mistake he would have won, the winning margin was much greater than the short head margin today.

The Stewards enquired into possible interference between the last two hurdles involving Torcello, ridden by B.J. Cooper, placed fifth, Gold Seal, ridden by E.T. Daly, placed second, Kuiper Belt (USA), ridden by D.F. O'Regan, placed first and Galtymore, ridden by S.A. Mulcahy, placed sixth, where it appeared that Kuiper Belt (USA) in manoeuvering outwards caused a concertina effect of interference. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that Kuiper Belt (USA) had improved his placing in relation to Gold Seal by causing interference and consequently reversed the placings of those horses with the result now to read; First - Gold Seal, Second - Kuiper Belt (USA), Third - Randalls Ur Poet, Fourth - Lucky Icon, Fifth - Torcello, Sixth - Galtymore and Seventh - Masterstonemason. Furthermore the Stewards were of the opinion that D.F. O'Regan was in breach of Rule 214 by riding carelessly and suspended him for 2 racedays having taken his previous record into consideration.

i think I remember a race at Chester where interference occurred very early in the race and got chucked. Think Cunningham spotted it on RUK.

impossible, the 2nd never went below 1.28 in the stewards.

By:

shaftoflaps bet the winner when he saw no interference on the run-in, first thing he looks for.  probably had some of the photo as well given that it wasn't even close (1.02 - 1.04 free money) ... he wouldn't look that far back for interference and 99.9% of the time he'd be right not to ...

hes stated many times he doesnt bet away from the track, but probably did his money in the photo agreed.
