sounds good but the bookies wouldn't take much at 50's, maybe £2.

if you got your £2 online at 50's you would now have received an 'important account information' email from whoever you placed the bet with.
Report domino14 • September 3, 2018 10:07 AM BST
I doubt this will come anywhere. Rarely do you improve a horse of Michael Dods and no way if connections were lining this up would they be happy about it being smashed up without a penny of connections money on. This will definitely be a non jigger today.
Report StillLearning • September 3, 2018 10:13 AM BST
they might have got on dom, it was 50's last night shortened to 12's before hugh taylor put it up, so some money has gone down on it
Report domino14 • September 3, 2018 11:11 AM BST
@Stilllearning

You can not get on a horse the night before, it's impossible. Owners don't spend thousands a year to bet horses for £5-25 the night before or early hours of the morning.

I remember riding for Dandy one morning, he came out the office around 11am going mental, that a horse had been smashed off the boards all morning and the owners weren't on. He demanded to know if any lads in the yard had told punters and so on or had backed it themselves. he was livid.

The horse was very slow out the stalls and never figured.

There is no way the people that fund the Britain operation are on this horse at 50s into 12s, you wouldn't have even got 200 quid on it.

Stupid early market nonsense again.
Needs ending once and for all with no markets available before midday.

Of course it is Stilllearning , you cant's get on overnight. These big movers drift out late as quick as they came in. This horse is already to 11.5. There's no way connections of any horse allow people to nick their prices when they are gambling yards.

There will be zero shrewd money on this horse today that's for sure.

got the making of one of doms top ten threads and that is really saying something.

"i am 100% certain...i remember riding for...no possible chance this will happen..."

give me an amen if you have heard this before Grin

More utter tosh from Domino. Of course there are plenty that drift after apparently being backed overnight or in the morning and are never sighted. But some of them do win and there are plenty of examples of horses going off much shorter than the opening price the night before and landing the punt. Spotting the genuine gambles is the issue most punters have. How much connections get on at the fancy prices is another matter but Hugh Taylor's tipping of Another Angel is almost solely responsible for it being in single figures and it will stay that way with the bookies until nearer the off time when the 'real' market takes shape. And it may or may not be that Another Angel is fancied, the market just before the off will reveal that.

could be an interesting race to watch to see the tactics:

I'll go for, blazes along in front then weakens in final furlong to finish second last
Report 1st time poster • September 3, 2018 2:29 PM BST
does a genuine gambel have to involve the owners,stable etc, as stated above could well have been set up for a race but now the price has gone could be given an easoier,does it make the early moves any less genuine
Report 1st time poster • September 3, 2018 2:32 PM BST
boom the groom put up on all sorts of tipping lines shortened overnight all morning, then was offered at 50 plus on here in the half hour pre race,fell out of the stalls then finished 18th of 19th, would be a nice example
Report domino14 • September 3, 2018 2:35 PM BST
I've no doubt the horse is well handicapped, and it's back over a trip that should suit, but the Britain yard are very much a gambling yard and I doubt they got their money on from 7pm the night before prior t 8.30am when it was 12/1 biggest. Mainly because the volume of money you can get on that time is small. The horse will have been marked to the bookies, before Hugh Taylor put it up at 12s and it would have been his tipping and following that saw it contract to 7/1. The horse has started to ease towards the price it was when Hugh Taylor tipped it, but if this was readied for a yard touch, I doubt they would be happy about a horse being 10/1 when they knew they could have got 40s about it another day. I firmly expect it to be slowly away and never in race. Maybe coming mid div.
Report the bloob • September 3, 2018 2:46 PM BST
when Hugh Taylor tipped Titus at York the other day it was available at 25/1 in a place, and 20/1 general the evening before. Money came for it and by the time he tipped it in the morning the price was 12/1 and he tipped at that price. It bolted up, which does seem to prove the point, and the stable money was down first on this occasion

Domino, the OP was referring to Another Angel which Hugh Taylor put up at 25-1 not 12's. It generally opened at 40's and 50's with all the bookies when the market opened yesterday. Get your facts right

When Hugh Taylor put the horse up, it's best price was 12/1 NOT 25/1, his piece states 25/1, but that price was not available.

Wrong again Domino. Hugh posted it at 9.18,  It was generally 20-1 plus til 9.20 with virtually all the books, Oddschecker confirms this. Of course, very few can get on at the price Hugh advises but you are wrong about it being 12-1 at the it was posted.

Given by 9.20 the horse was 10/1, how many people do you believe got anything like 20/1 or 25/1 ?

There is no way of knowing when Hugh's post goes live and in the space of 120 seconds of it online it was 10/1 and 12/1.

Do you think anyone bar Hugh himself got odds anywhere near that price.

Hugh posts on twitter that his selections will appear within the next 5 mins and that invariably happens. Everybody knows that the price is chopped instantly by the books. You said the it was 12-1 at the time Hugh posted which is incorrect, it was 20's plus but it was instantly cut to 10's or less by the majority. Of course, next to nobody can get on at the prices but Hugh acknowledges this with a degree of humour on his twitter feed. The guy is different class and anything he makes from his betting is well deserved imo.

I dispute he is a very good judge, but I do feel at times he has unearthed some gambles connections wish he haven't and plans have changed because of it.

I was actually taking the time of 9.26 which was on his piece, when presumed was 12s. I see there is two times on the post, of which the price went within seconds.

My point is this horse went from 25s to 10s probably for no money.

Answer me this honestly, if you owned said horse, and had spent the last year getting it down to 60, thought you would get 25s possibly 33s about this, and suddenly at 9am its 8/1, you've not got a penny on. You've spent 20K lining the horse up, are you really telling me you would be happy for the horse to go out and win, knowing that it's now been tipped by Hugh, so bookies probably would allow you to have far less on it at 8/1, than a 8/1 shot not tipped by Hugh? I know if it was my horse, it would be out the back or not running at all, and I'm pretty sure that would be the view of many owners / trainers looking for a touch with a horse.

I think they'd still have to get stuck in at 8s if they still thought they had an edge. Let's face it, they aint going to see 40s next time either when the cat's out the bag.

WHICH YARD WERE YOU BASED AT DOMINO
Report flukes • September 3, 2018 3:14 PM BST
Am not disputing that happens, a couple of Hugh's tips have been non-runners in the last week or so. You were stating though that the price wasn't available at the time of going to press which isn't correct, albeit the price will have gone in a flash and will not be available to the vast majority. Many of Hugh's drift back out but some become sustained gambles and plenty of those seem to win.

@Sweetnsour

Started at Barry Hills, had a small stint with Dandy Nicholls, then James Fanshawes and Sir Michael Stoute, went away for a bit, came back and rode out for Cecil and Stoute until Sir Henry passed away, then when I retired I stayed at Stoutes for a few months before packing up riding altogether. Rode out odd lots for a number of other yards including Channon, Kirk, Alan King and so on, but the main named yards were ones I rode out for Monday - Saturday.

@Mouse

Disagree, if it's out the back tonight, it's not out the bag at all. In fact you could run it out the back 2 or 3 times and make it look like it wasn't even fancied today, was only Hughs tip that shortened it, and it was a disappointing horse who was regressive.

2 or 3 duck eggs to it's name and you would soon get 33s again when you wanted to let the break off, and as most would have been bitten the time when Hugh tipped it, they will unlikely go in again.
Report StillLearning • September 3, 2018 3:20 PM BST
wasn't hugh's tip that shortened it. it went from 50's to 12's before hugh tipped it

No Sweetnsour.

I was at Cecil's late 2012 to his death in 2013. Willie had long left the fold by then. Willie was a jockeys agent at that sort of time, but I think he rode out now and again for Peter, but by the time I was at Sir Henry's Willie was not part of the set up.

doesn't tom queally get about 10k everytime Frankel covers a mare?

don't know why he's still rididng.
Report domino14 • September 3, 2018 3:54 PM BST
@Still Learning

I doubt that very much, if he got a mare for Frankel, he may get a payment in kind but I doubt very much Tom Queally gets anything from Frankel's covering fee.
Report StillLearning • September 3, 2018 4:01 PM BST
sure I heard he had some sort of shares in the covering fee
Report domino14 • September 3, 2018 4:08 PM BST
I doubt a jockey would be given a 8% share in a horses covering fee, the only thing it could have been is Cecil was given a share for training him and left it to Tom in his will, but I don't know.

It sounds highly unlikely though to me.

Horse is covering 100-120 mares a year. If Tom was earning 10K a jump (1.2m a year roughly) he would not be bothering with a riding career get the odd one or two rides a day.

I was speculating the figure Dom, it's probably a lot lower, but he definitely has some deal. Should be something about it on t'internet somewhere
