Quite a few old favourites out today which appear to hold very good chances.
1. Angel Gabriel (9) 5.25 Chester-Long time since he came a close 2nd in the Chester Cup, but has ran respectably this year notably when 3rd 2 outings ago over a trip probably 2fs short of his best, the winner Star of the East has won twice since from 90 and 95, AG was only btn 4 lengths keeping on, has only ran once since and think he has been kept for this race. He ran 3rd in this race last year btn just over 2 lengths carrying 9-11 giving 9lbs to the winner who won again from 5lbs higher, the 2nd won on its next race. AG has dropped 12lbs from that run and carries just 9-2 today. 11/2

2.  Vastonea (10)  2.15 Curragh Used to run every year in the Irish Cambridgeshire later on the card over 1m, feel the old fella is better over 10fs these days and ran his best race for ages lto when catching the winner hand over fist at the end just denied. To be honest i think when you note the name of M Melia claiming 10lbs on a horse you can basically say they aren't trying and he rode this horse nearly all last year. Remember i put him up here when he won on his last outing at Leopardstown in 2016 just getting up in the final strides off 82, after 2 very good runs over todays C/D. Seems suited by a bit of give in the ground and only raised by 3lbs should go well today stall 22. 12/1-14/1 EW

3  Bondi Beach Boy (9) 3.20 Beverley A real speedball bombs out and just gets on with it, if you're old enough to remember he won 7 races in 2013 going up from 46-77, struggled for a season from marks in the 80s but has won at least 1 race every season since bar last year when his mark fell from 78-65 this year. Already won here this season from 65 by 2 lengths and only just touched off from 72 last time when caught at the end but was drawn out wide that day, 2lb higher now but more importantly drawn in 1, has to go very close. Currently 4/1 Griffiths also has another oldie Take Cover running in the Bullet a race he won last year, although i'm sure will give a good account may be scuppered by the draw in 9.

4 Baraweez (8) 2.05 Chester. Already won twice this season over C/D from 89 and 93 and ran a decent race at York behind all the way winner Poets Society and is 7lbs better off with that horse here, Ellison having borrowed O'Mearas 5lb claimer Connor McGovern, young lads riding at almost 20% SR recently and looks well worth his 5lb claim. Barawwez had returned from his annual Galway adventure where he's won the Ahonoora h'cap twice and a close 2nd to stablemate Dream Walker, came 5th this year btn just 2 1/2 lengths from 100, clearly a horse for courses and gets in off 95 today, also the only horse with a claimer in this race so theoretically 90. Downside is the outside draw which he has to overcome but was held up when winning both his races here this year so may not be quite such a disadvantage for him as for others. 10/1 EW.

The old boys ran well, 2 very close 2nds and a decent 3rd, have got 3 place doubles and a place treble up, wish i'd put Take Cover in the EW yankee instead of the badly drawn Baraweez, the oldest of the lot stormed out of the stalls and was never challenged!
