The 7 lb claim obviously helped, but to get Maroc, of all horses, to beat S de Sousa on an odds-on shot in a driving finish is a hell of an effort.

Didn't look to be helping the horse much.

It proves that the horse is 95% everything about winning.  Jockey has little input as all the boy did was sit on the horse

Still succeeded where R Kingscote and L Morris have repeatedly failed.

Look at it this way: Maroc's a 5yo who'd gone 22 races on the Flat without success until today, but been second 7 times. Give the lad a bit of credit.

Not having a go at the jockey.  Just pointing the obvious.  It's all about the horse in this game

Some horses appreciate not being knocked about and respond better to a quiet ride.

where is the zoffany bay soft ground form please. ?
Report screaming from beneaththewaves • August 29, 2018 5:19 PM BST
I don't think it's all about the horse. If it were, Maroc would have cheerfully found nil in the last 100 yds, same as it did for Kingscote in its last two starts.

Whatever it was the jockey did today, it was that which made the difference. Not the horse.

Oh, no argument with the pre-race ground issue, GLASGOWCALLING. It's why I laid it today.

But from the way it had the rest of the field strung out the length of the straight, you surely couldn't argue it was the ground that beat it today.

must have been a doubt before the race though, unless in the know. ?
Report screaming from beneaththewaves • August 29, 2018 5:28 PM BST
Yes. As I said: no argument that there was a pre-race doubt about soft ground, having been tailed off twice on good to soft as a two and three-year-old.

But after today, having been beaten a neck on soft at Lingfield, you wouldn't be doubting it on soft ground in the future.

Thought the lad gave it a good ride he had not impressed me before, but did well there.
