Okay, my knowledge of racing is good, my opinion of horses, trainers and so on I feel is decent, but this is what you would expect when your whole working life has been in the game.

But betting on racing is difficult.

I've been reading a betting book, and tells me in handicaps (non 2yo's) from 6f - 12f with fields of 9 or bigger, if I was to lay the field for £25.00 at 1.90 as a keep bet pre race, that a steady profit can be made.

Out of interest has anyone on here seen or heard anything similar and is it something worth doing, and could well be profitable or would it not be worth trying ?

Didn't see the limit was 12f and just tried it on this 5.55 at Southwell.

Was hard to follow in the race, but laying for £20 @ 1.90 the whole field, it looks like I have had 3 matched?

Every horse shows as a profit on the race, three winning £21.08 and all the other winning £57.80.

May sound a stupid question, but why are three paying £21.08 and the others £57.80?

Looks like I win £21.08 on race.

dom i know a few people who bet like this
they usually put a lay the field in around
1.5 but cancel as soon as one is matched
it does become boring after a while but profit
can be made especiaaly if youre prepared to
martingale stakes hope this helps and good
luck for the future

I like to bet, it's for fun Willie, and keen to find ways to make money without massive need of time.

If this can make 50/100 quid a day, by setting it up and leaving it and understanding it, if it's worth it, then it's extra money a week.

Also it's my wives property, she paid for it, her name is on it, and it will be left to our children.

I'm just looking for a few ways to try and make £1000 a week. I have about £20k access, and just looking for ways I can generate some extra money, which wont take up too much of my time.

@Whatyoulookingat

Thanks for your reply but 3/4 days a week when I'm working I simply don't have time to be watching races and cancelling bets when one is matched, is there anyway I can do that by using Betfair.

It took me like 4 minutes just to set up that one race for £20 lay at 1.90 every runner and then select to keep in play.

One thing is for certain domino, you'll definitely lay a winner every race, if you manage to lay 2 horses at 1.9 you'd only win £2.50. Expect the certainty of laying a winner every race you bet in would do you long term!

Thanks Mouse, but technically that's impossible for me !

If she gets pregnant again, I know it isn't mine, and deep in our Fourties I don't think she's planning on more kids.

Got 3 girls, always wanted a boy but wasn't to be.

One of my girls has health issues, but the other two are in secondary school now and are quite bright. They didn't get it from me. I've a;ways made sure they would never get into racing though, which is why I called it a day before they were old enough for the racing bug to hit.

My eldest wants to be a vet, whilst the middle one wants to be in fashion like her Mum.

You'd better make the most of it while you can, Dom. A £40k a year salary isn't going to go far if you separate.

Dom there's people all over analysing in running strategies and pre race markets, if an anomaly ever exists on anything it's eventually eroded.

Thanks for the advice, it appears this isn't what I'm looking for.

We wont separate Kenbo for the sake of the girls. She would have left me after I had affairs in the past if that was the case.

Life's what you make it Kenbo, no point dwelling on the past and no point looking to the future for the answer, take each day as it unfolds and if you're breathing at the end of it, then it's a good day.

Think you are wasting your time looking at laying domino, you have at least conceded that gambling be it backing or laying is far harder than you had imagined or envisaged, which is a start.

Unfortunately, and please don't take offence, you exude all the traits associated with a problem gambler, the main cause for this is that you have not had to rely on your gambling knowledge to survive financially, you play and guess for recreational purposes whether it be for the adrenaline buzz or as a substitute for something that is missing from your life.

To succeed you do not require a massive bank, in many ways the smaller the bank the better the chance is that your concentration and discipline will be maintained, having funds available to you in reserve can often lead to a complacent approach which in turn then erodes your will to stick to the original parameters that you have set for yourself.

The fundamental requirements to succeed are risk assessment and loss control management, an ability to see and accept what you are doing is no different to a job is imperative, removing the mindset that you are gambling and replacing it with overseeing investment growth albeit in small daily increments is paramount in maintaining your focus on what is required, losses are inevitable but learning to minimize and control them is the factor to be worked on and addressed continuously, most people either ignore this point or pass it off as bad luck, then go on the chase and in the process 9 times out of ten compound the problem.

Lots of people will tell you it is not possible to achieve a profit and admittedly it is now far harder because of the limited liquidity but setting your own realistic goals and sticking to a business acumen in preference to a gambling approach, will give you the steady income you state you would be happy to make.
