Suggested a lay to AIS on his thread but don't wish to clog his thread up so will put my thoughts on the race here. 2.10 Beverley Feel that Withersea may be worth taking on in this claimer, at 1st glance he has at least 10lbs in hand of his nearest rival and takes a big drop in class from running mainly in C2 h'caps, C3 last time but hasn't won since May last year when rated 93, that was on soft ground and i've always felt he's a much better horse with plenty of give in the ground. Connections usually drop a horse into a claimer if a) they don't think horse can win a h'cap from present mark or b) are looking for an easy race to have a big punt on and grab some prize money. Well 3.7k for the winner here and horse can be claimed for 15k, which doesn't seem a lot for a 7 yo that runs in C2s. I think this would be 2/1 if they were really going for a punt, but could they be confident on G/F ground, i doubt it. Clear 2nd fav Acrux is in good form with 4 wins this year and seems to go best on GF ground, imagine they wouldn't mind him being claimed for 15k if this improving horse can win this, looks clear of Kodi Ridge and the others on form, has to be an EW 1-2 bet for me.
Dissapointed but fair play to jockey on the 2nd, took them along at a fine rattle, withersea struggled to get the better of him although technically 17lb better in.

Acrux a horse who is very solid in sellers and claimers, I would imagine he was claimed to run in the 7f 0-80 or allowance race at Laytown for Melbourne Ten Syndicate, with that meeting only next week and entries to be mae this week. It's worth 9k and 7.7k which are open to 4yo+, so I would suggest he's been claimed with Laytown in mind. Kody Ridge would qualify for the 0-65 7f claimer so again worth the claim for 6k.
Withernsea rated 86 would not be eligible for the claimer or 0-80 and if he were to run in the allowance race rated 86 he would have to shoulder 12st and give lumps of weight away and has only run once on the all weather so I would imagine Fahey doesn't think it suits him, so it wasn't worth claiming for the Laytown meeting.
Whilst the others qualify for valuable races for the grade, they could easily have leading chances in.
