Dissapointed but fair play to jockey on the 2nd, took them along at a fine rattle, withersea struggled to get the better of him although technically 17lb better in.

Acrux was claimed by Mr J A Osborne for £15,000. Kody Ridge was claimed by Mr J A Osborne for £7,000.
How come no one claimed Withersea for 15K? |

7 year old not going to win h'caps off current mark. Acrux 5 y-o.

No but he could win a fair few of these claimers as going gets softer, and mark will fall for h'caps next year imo.

I don't think you've been to WITHERNSEA. Very wise I haven't been since one visit in 1965.

Acrux a horse who is very solid in sellers and claimers, I would imagine he was claimed to run in the 7f 0-80 or allowance race at Laytown for Melbourne Ten Syndicate, with that meeting only next week and entries to be mae this week. It's worth 9k and 7.7k which are open to 4yo+, so I would suggest he's been claimed with Laytown in mind. Kody Ridge would qualify for the 0-65 7f claimer so again worth the claim for 6k.
Withernsea rated 86 would not be eligible for the claimer or 0-80 and if he were to run in the allowance race rated 86 he would have to shoulder 12st and give lumps of weight away and has only run once on the all weather so I would imagine Fahey doesn't think it suits him, so it wasn't worth claiming for the Laytown meeting. Whilst the others qualify for valuable races for the grade, they could easily have leading chances in. |
