Missing the break isn't always helped, but the ride that proceeded it from SDS was very suspect. For a horse so strong in the market he rode it like it wasn't off a yard.
Agree didn't have the gears for 6f,the draw forced the Ingleby Molly smash out get across tactics if she'd been drawn middle/low Passing Star would've been beaten alot further imo.

It's more for me, the horse on the rail he's tracking is pulling so hard it's never going to get home and you know it's gonna fall in your lap. As a decent jockey he will have known that and could have positioned himself better (was nothing on his outside). Instead he followed it, waited for it to come into his lap, then proceeded to come very wide around the bend, went inwards again, that gap closed, pulled out wide and stayed on well. Early on had he used his head and moved around the hard puller or away from it, he would not have lost the 2/3L he lost when it dropped back underneath him and then had to come too wide. Sticking to the rail and hoping for the best is all well and good, but not when you are tracking one which you know is pulling so hard you know it's gonna fall in a heap in front of you.

It's lack of early and middle gears forced his hand position wise which was always a big possibility given the horses' previous 6f runs, the better than predicted gallop might give the impression more was involved but in all likelyhood the horse would've been flat out/near flat out all the way round that's why he made very little impression between the 3f/2f simply staying on late like a horse who blatantly needs further.
