I am staying in Merthyr for a bit over a week next month ( nostalgic trip to my father's birthplace-about 10 miles down the valley )
The more I read about the place the more it seems I might need to be able to claim acquaintance with a " face " if I am to get out alive.

Well you live and learn. Rhondda Cynon Taff isn't actually a place but an area council covering quite a large area just to the south of Merthyr. My father's birthplace where I spent my summer holidays when young is roughly equidistant between Aberdare and Pontypridd,the two largest towns in the area. It is actually the place where the Cynon and Taff rivers converge.

I used to work in the council offices in Abercynon, could easily meet there.
In a cafe one lunch break, a chef brought my food and drink out - with my glass wedged in his bare armpit

Cardiff fans are pure bluffers. The 2nd biggest bunch of idiots in Wales behind SWP. Nobody supported them until they got close to the Premiership, it was either Liverpool or Man U. Sickening how they jumped on the bandwagon. The real supporters (soul crew) were basically hooligans too.
Was a decent (alcohol and drug induced) atmosphere @ Ninian Park back in the day. Nutters in the Grange End and standing in the Bob Bank.
