Sure it carried 19st to win that year. A monster of a horse. I know they have a 25 year time lapse but shouldn`t be allowed.

Just seen your post stewarts, there is nothing sacred anymore. Shouldn`t be allowed imo. Only names that are protected are Classic winners. Prolific winners like Roman Warrior, Even Keel, etc have no protection regarding their historical racing names

Roman warrior got me interested in horse racing - 1975 my last year at school - a teacher said to the whole class at the end of a lesson that he did not know anything about horseracing but he knew RW would win the Ayr gold cup - not know if he knew the trainer or connections but he was adamant! I got in from school that night told my older brother who told a few of his mates and a fair few quid was won - easy ain't it?

Amazing sight him winning the 3-y-o h'cap at the York June meeting '73. Others looked like ponies.

Further Flight was a star too and his name gets hijacked. Owners are to blame, no respect for racing history. There was a horse a couple of years named Grand Canyon The original was a big Black horse trained by Derek Kent. One of the first NZL breds to race in UK and started a trend. He was some horse. Won the Colonial Cup Chase in Carolina.

Grand Canyon led the 1979 King George for most of the race until falling.......considering the race also featured Tied Cottage not too shabby an achievement.
