I don't wish to be devils advocate but I disagree with people saying life not fair. When someone decides to take their own life it's their decision. She was 18, whole life ahead of her, had already achieved so much, living in a lovely country and part of a GB team, and a genuine future in sport. Then can be no reason one can possibly imagine that would lead to someone of that age to commit suicide. Yes it's sad and will be gut wrenching for the family, but it's hard to make any sense as to why an 18 year old with the world at their feet would kill themselves. So it's not really a case of life's not fair, when in fact she made her own decision to end her life.

domino, there is absolutely no sense or reason where depression is involved, those who cannot understand it should possibly consider themselves fortunate and leave it at that.

I assumed she died as a result of an accident.Poor kid.

In all due respect I do understand depression. I have had 2 very close friends who committed suicide and they had problems which they hid from everyone and no one had any idea about until after they died. But there is no logical reason why an 18yo who is making a success of their life should commit suicide.

domino - no different than the likes of Gary Speed who had pretty much a great life to us outside his World, it doesn't mean they are happy regardless of what WE think. It's a shame that some of the freaks this planet has make it to a ripe old age - plenty of them who deserve the electric chair.

Gary Speeds death is still a mystery.Man had every to live for.

Maybe not best placed to say, but Gary Speed was about to be outed by a Red Top as being mixed up in some same sex relationship and that he was abused as a young footballer, so it's not exactly unknown why he committed suicide. He was suffering from a lot of stress and worried about the press digging in the knives to his past and personal life.

Sadly that's how the British press work.

That is all speculation though as it currently stands, regardless there are plenty of people who seem to be happy go lucky yet behind closed doors they are far from it. I am not getting into an argument or even debate about mental health as it is pointless. But if you think she just just got up yesterday and thought "what a great life and future I have, I am going to end it today" I think you are deluded. She probably felt she had no choice imo.

I'm not saying she did Magic_Daps. I already said I think it's sad, but all I was saying, was people were saying the world is not fair and I disagreed in this context. For whatever reason she chose to commit suicide, it was her own choice.

We learned just a few days ago that suicide rates increase in hot weather so perhaps it is simply the rising mercury that tipped her over the edge. That it was her 18th birthday, her coming of age, might have led her to reflect on her life.

A close friend of mine drowned himself. We never found out why. Every possible logical explanation turned out to be false (his missus was playing away? She was not. He was about to be sacked? His colleagues and directors loved him. He was skint? The savings accounts he'd thoughtfully listed immediately before setting out on his final journey contained over a million pounds. And so on).

I imagine Ellie Souter's family and friends will be searching for explanations. They may never find one. RIP.

Depression has nothing to do with what people have in life, money success etc

It is purely a mental state that can be very difficult to overcome domino

18 yo depressed could be a Boyfriend split up  ,who knows a sad turn of events

Depression seems to cover a wide area ,seem to be a lot of Depressed people who have F.A to be depressed about TBH ..

If they are that seriously ill surely their family or health care  would notice ??

Lot of people with real depression also try to hide it casemoney

I knew a guy who had just been promoted at work, best position he'd ever had, young wife and they had a small kid, laughing away at a party hung himself few days later....

Stu I can Assure I have had plenty to be Depressed about and some extremely Low times the last 10/15 years , People have to try snap out of it ,as your saying perhaps there is not Enough education regarding the Disease ..

Regarding anyone taking their Life there could be various personal reasons Etc and I would not comment on that ,in this young ladies case it is a Tragic waste of Life ..

Half this social Media shyte Facebook and the rest of it Dont help over taking peoples life's...

On the other End years back I had an Uncle Through him self off a Bridge ,he had what was really a Minor Housing Problem which would have been resolved in a few Days , but it literally pushed him over the Edge ,I met him a few hours before he done it I knew there was something seriously Wrong and even told my Mum and Dad

suicide is an awful thing we deal with these days,i know a fella a while back a bit before Christmas him and his girl and two kids were putting the Christmas decorations up both kids under 6,after putting them up went to his garage put a rope up and hung himself for no apparent reason now that's unreal,also on another note gambling is the cause for many of these every year its sad

Defo something in the heat thing.  Know of three people (within circles of friends rather than directly) who have taken their own lives in the last 2 months.  20 year old lad with the world at his feet (hanged), 50 year old woman who filled a rucksack with rocks, strapped it to herself and threw herself into a stream, and a 30 year old woman, successful business, married, young family (also hanged - second attempt at suicide).... 

I'm not going to pretend to 'get' how people end up in the situation where they see that as the only way out....  I guess I'm lucky.

Success can be a pain in the @rse. Can get you involved with people who expect it to continue. And that can create real pressure.

I think it very unfair that she decided to make the choice that the only way out of what ever demons were invading her life ( for whatever reason), was to take her own life.

Yes, it was her own choice. But people who commit suicide don't have a choice. They are not ' thinking' in that way.

Correct. You can just think you have a poor life that's not worth living and with little likely to get better. You are most likely to feel like that in late teenage years imo. You haven't the experience to see the big picture.
