He was warned off over the Greek trainer issues and I think he was linked to the Bill Hinge enquiry as well. That was a good few years ago now, so not sure if he is still banned or not.

I too done my modules in 2013 Gutfeeling, but as well as the modules you have to have 18 months as an assistant trainer to be considered for a license, which is why Alice Haynes is assistant to John Butler, as she wants her license. Chelsea will be the same. Doing the modules is all well and good but unless you have a big name in racing and get a temp license, you have to complete 18 months as an assistant before you are considered for a license. |

I never minded Chelsea so I'll leave it there and wish her and Joey the best of luck, I just doubt she'll have the slightest say in any of it as time goes on, Hope I'm wrong but..

As is the norm Gutfeeling. When I rode for a yard I won't mention in Newmarket, there was 2 lads training half a dozen horses in the yard. I never rode their horses and the trainer whose name was on the license knew nothing about the horses, they took them out before 1st lot and they ran them as they saw fit. One day 2 ran and both were absolutely smashed off the boards, Matt Chapman on his morning program rang the trainer who knew nothing about the two horses and had to basically say a load of twaddle and that to Matt. The first one won and then the next one was pulled out 15 minutes later, apparently the ground not ideal, I imagine the boys had it off on the first one, and wanted to not risk the doubles.
It happens a lot in yards. Many yards (esp smaller ones) allow their assistants to have horses. You only have to look at the number of horses an ex jockey has in training with a big Newmarket yard and he rides them all out himself. He won't be paying full fee's that's for sure. It happens a lot in smaller yards nowadays. I would be amazed if Chelsea is pulling the strings, I don't know her personally but the yard she is in, was far from cheap rent wise, and she has bought cheap horses and pre training for a number of smaller owners and trainers. It comes as no surprise the people backing this Howling operation are gambling owners. |

I rode a couple of very good horses first time out who went on to be group horses, I won on both. But at home I worked a horse called Cesare a lot and a quirky but talented horse called Azarole, those would have been the best horses I rode out there. Was never allowed near Soviet Song !

Ha loved Soviet Song, I wonder why he doesn't train any NH horses nowdays as I thought he was very talented with hurdlers / chasers.

Jeremy the best horse I've ever sat on. To work him at home was something else. He galloped like Pegasus at home, you didn't even feel him touching the ground, and you were going flat out but felt like you were hacking. He didn't achieve half of what we thought he would at home. To sit on, he felt the best I ever sat on, I thought he was going to be a world beater. My Favourite horse to ride out was a horse called Patkai, he was lazy but tried, great horse to gallop over 9f on the Limekilns, you would push him the whole way no matter what you worked him with and he just done what he had to. He had a great personality and was a real favourite of mine.

By David Milnes 7:19PM, JUL 26 2018 Paul Howling nearly enjoyed a dream return to the training ranks on the North Denes when At Your Service, one of Howling's three runners on the card, was narrowly beaten into second in the opening 6f handicap. Formerly based in part of Warren Place in Newmarket, after a five year break Howling has returned as a licence holder in a yard just eight miles from headquarters. After At Your Service had been reeled in late by Deeds Not Words, Howling said: "That was nearly a dream return to training and I thought it was going to be like 1987 when my first runner in my first spell won a televised handicap. That got us a few new owners I can tell you but this fellow has lost nothing in defeat." On the reasons behind the revival of his training career, he added: "I've been managing horses for a few owners but kept getting asked when I was going to train again. I had a nice offer so we're back in business. I've about 12 in at the moment at what was John Ferguson's yard at Bloomfields. I have a few to buy so hopefully I'll have a few more. " |
