You mean Manning used the air-cushioned persuader only while his mount was responding willingly?
Someone e-mailed ATR to say they thought Dettori should have done the same. I bet Declan wudda!

He tanked through the Derby for over 10f looking like a world beater until the petrol gauge went into the red and it appeared he didn't stay.
So where next for the horse? Of course, it has to be the Eclipse over 10f! But no, instead they decide his next run should be in a Group 3 carrying a penalty. What was the point in that?
Either, they don't think he's up to Group 1 company (but that seem a bit odd), OR (imo) they gave the horse a break after the Derby with his number one aim being the Irish Champion, and last night the horse was some way off 100 % fitness?

I think the Epsom form is nothing special given defeats of the 1st 5 placed horses at the same distance next time out; Roaring Lion beat Saxon Warrior (beaten 2x) over 10f when the latter had had a hard race a week earlier in the Irish Derby. As for Masar the winner at Epsom we'd know when he returns from injury next season.
