There's a single owner / trainer in the land, who would want that horse to win today, if they trained / owned it. Long term, one win or even a place for that matter, will jeopardise 2/3 wins.

Yes, and when I've ridden them on their 3rd run, they are either over the wrong trip, wrong track, or say its a horse that likes to race forward I am told to drop it in, and not be hard on it, one smack maximum. Used to hate it when get rides like that. Sadly too many trainers try to handicap horses by running when backward and green and suddenly going into a 3rd run the horse improves a lot as it's woke up and the trainer runs it over the optimum trip and in a soft race and tells the rider to give it an easy. I tried to turn down those rides, as you can end up looking bent to the punter, and if the horse runs well, the trainer blames you.
Personally I'll be amazed if the horse is ridden to be in the frame today, it makes no sense at all. The benchmark of this race is 80-85, he has so far ran 67 at best in a maiden that I think will work out well. I can understand the desire to get him out for a 3rd run quickly, before the winner or 2nd from the Haydock race make the name for themselves in a better grade, but I am surprised he's over 6f today. Had I trained him I would have gone back to 5f looking for a sharp race, he will get outpaced and make minimal late progress in. That way the horse even if the handicapper is harsh, can only get a mark in the low 70s. If the horse say comes 3rd today, beaten lets say 2L, (4lb) the handicapper already knows those at the head of the betting are 80-85 horses without improvement. So he will probably say ones ran to 85 and your horse is looking at 80-82 and given it's improved each run, if he doesn't get a hard ride, he's going to get 82-84 for justifiable improvement. My guess is from his low draw, he'll be slowly away again, only this time not rushed up in the mid part of the race, but allowed to waiting until they are off the dog leg and he'll run on up the centre of the track on the slower ground, allowed to come 4th/5th or 6th and beaten at least 4-5L, so the handicapper can't really give him more than 70. If that's the case he would then be in nurseries some 10-12lb lower than if they try to win with him and if he is good enough to be an 80-85 horse (standard needed to win this) then he can bag a nursery or two before the handicapper reflects that. Running a close 2nd or 3rd today will guarantee an 80+ mark and that could make like difficult in nurseries as he'll be up against well handicapped unexposed types, and he would be off a natural mark. It's unlikely he will be a stakes horse, so there is no benefit for anyone for him to be busy today, except the lads in the yard, who don't think like owners and trainers and know he's improving and working nicely and think they'll have a bit of an ew and could be overpriced at 12/1 and could be a nice earner. Sadly it's why you don't find many lads in yards who are wealthy. They can tell you the well being of a horse, and how it's going at home, but unless you know the guy doing the entries, paying the bills, riding the horse or actually training them, you never actually know if they are off. I rode some lovely horses at Stoute's, some who went on to be very good horses, but some when I rode on debut, they literally had done no work at home, and knew nothing. But didn't stop them being prominent in the betting at smaller tracks because of their illustrious pedigree and price tag. I think Ed Dunlop is quite a savvy trainer and he does like to ready a few for handicaps and he's not a trainer you find over faces his horses so with that in mind, I can't really grasp any reason why this horse would be out to jeopardise a fair handicap mark in order to win a £3700 race (around 1K if 2nd or 3rd). |

" the Dascombe horse is drawn one off the rail,"
You're making the OP look smart with this comment. Please explain how stall 13 is one off the rail, when ever since the draw numbering system was changed several years ago, the horse drawn on the inside rail at Windsor is in stall 1. And please, don't now try to claim you were referring to the far side rail! |
|
By:
@The anorak
Aren't the stalls Inside at Windsor on the straight 5 and 6f, therefore as they are inside and not stands side, the low numbers would be central and higher numbers stand side ? Whilst on the round track, one is on the rail and so forth ? |
|
By:
Watch a film, any film of a 6f race at Windsor - stall 1 is on the stand side rail. Inside is stands side - both the same thing. What's the round track got to do with a 6F race?

@The anorak
Also alluded to by GG.Com in their draw bias page. I'm almost certain that the stalls are inside on the sprint track at Windsor, therefore low numbers are in the centre of the track and high numbers closest to the stand side rail. If the stalls were stands side, then it would be low on the stands rail and high in the centre. The Effect of the Draw High numbers are best in sprints when the ground is good or faster, but it's the opposite on soft and heavy ground, when low numbers have a clear edge. Good to soft ground cancels out biases. Concentrate on the bottom seven stalls in soft and heavy ground sprints, cross out any runner drawn in single figures in fast-ground sprints with more than eighteen runners. |

Okay, Thanks Anorak.
Surprising there is a high draw bias then given the amount of winners up the stands side ? |
|

I'd stop posting if I were you - you're making yourself look ridiculous.
That stuff on GG.com is years out of date. |

By:
How am I Anorak ? I was wrong in the position of the stalls ? However my reasoning of the fav being too short remains. The horse now has further to get across to the rail. Granted it makes life more difficult for the Dascombe horse to.
You say the draw bias on GG.com is years out of date, why would they display stuff years out of date? Even Proform lists drawn low as a massive bias in sprints ? I just found it odd, that most winners seem to come up the stands side in sprints now at Windsor, yet the bias remains high which is odd, given it's low numbers up the rail. |

Proform lists drawn high massive advantage, not Low, error in writing.

You may have been in the game a while dom but there are a few respected posters on here whose racing knowledge is second to none. The Anorak is one, the guy is different class on the factual side of the game.

I'm not saying he isn't The Dealer, I had a misunderstanding of the stalls at Windsor, what I don't understand is when you watch racing there, the horses on fast ground win up stands side in sprints, yet all the draw bias websites and databases say you need to be drawn high, just find that odd.

It won by a nose from the best horse in the race Willie.
I backed the 2nd ew and no damage. As said on ratings the difference between the two in the betting should have not been Evs and 11/2, and 8/13 and 11/2 at the off. A cigarette paper separated them on figures and that's all that separated them at the line, with only Paddy Pilley being weak on the second and having it unbalanced costing it the race, and SDS in overdrive holding on by a nostril hair. For someone who has been a successful gambler, you clearly have no concept of form or horse racing. I stated they were much the wrong prices and because of that the 2nd was a snide ew bet, so I was far from wrong, yfdnc |
