Not been to Perth, Musselborough Hamilton Park, Kelso, Hexham, Newcastle, Pontefract, Ripon, Redcar, Yarmouth, Fakenham, Chester, Huntingdon, Ffos Las, Epsom, Brighton or Chelmsford. Been to all of the others in GB. As you might guess I live in the south west. I haven't been racing in Ireland but have been to Pompadour, Longchamp, St Cloud, Deauville and Chantilly all in the distant past. Also Finger Lakes!, Arlington, Belmont and Santa Anita in the states, Rio de J. and Sao Paulo in Brazil and Nairobi.

workrider chelmsford and ffos las have not been to the rest you put up been there but going racing now is a no no hated the traffic getting there and back drinks and food a con what they charge staying at home watching atr and ruk different class

|
By:
Mad .dog. I am determined to finish the job and do them all,I know what you mean when you speak about the food and drink , what i find most galling is the price of entry to courses for mostly poor racing...Driving in the U.k. can be a nightmare traffic wise , especially the motorways ..

Long time since I've paid full whack to get into a racecourse. Usually use Racegoer discount or more likely their free days. Also have Jockey Club bond so can use part of interest payments to buy tickets for their tracks, ARC's and York. Have now bought a Two Together railcard for me and mate which gets a third off rail fares.
About 20 tracks to go. Was due to tick Carlisle off on Thurs but emergency came up so had to forgo. Thankfully it was a Racegoers free day but lost money on train tickets. Thankfully they've another free day in Oct. |

PS Muldoon, there are 2 courses at Newmarket, which do you mean. |

Yes Mike Hexham superb....

13 of that list, but I've jinxed Wye, Lanark, and Alexandra Park into closure! Have seen numerous others, but not on race days.
Other than that, Punchestown, Listowel and Killarney in Ireland, plus Philadelphia and Finger Lakes in US |
|
By:
I've been to every British racecourse several times - from 2005-2011 I worked for the Tote in a national role and had to go to every racecourse at least once a year. - then Fatfred got his mitts on it and I took redundancy.

Can I count Edinburgh and Musselburgh as two?
I never quite understand why people think so highly of Plumptom. It is compact and has quite good viewing. I was a member there for six years but let it lapse. Too many days of horrible ground despite their attempts to improve the drainage and a poor train service even from nearby Eastbourne especially on Sundays. |

I used to like Ally Pally and had a dash across London to there from work in SW18 hoping to make it for the first race. |
|
By:
Gosh oldgit i frequently drive an hour and a half to get to Plumpton. Very good value food and drink and often exciting finishes as horses tire up the slope to the post.
|
|
By:
Stephanie - I did Wye and Ally Pally but not Lanark regrettably. Mind you I did Lewes to make up for it. Little recollection of it mind, aged about 6/7. Went on the bus with Uncle Jack from Barcombe.
|
|
By:
Plumpton is an absolute gem of a racecourse, I love my days out there.
|
|
By:
Don't really remember Ally Pally, was taken there as a young child, and that was it. Lanark, and Wye were as a teen, so remember slightly more, but all a long time ago
|
|
By:
Oldgit - as you were a member at Plumpton , do you remember 'Tony the Hat'?

My father R.I.P. told me a wonderful story about a night at Ally Pally, he had done his dough all night and had his last pound on the fav in the last. Standing beside him was a guy who was getting very excited as they came inside the final furlong, remember this was about 1959, the nearer the line they got the more excited this man became. He was jumping up and down as 2 horses crossed the line, one my Dads and the other his, a 33/1 shot. The 33/1 got up to beat the fav and the poor fellow fell over and dropped dead right beside my Dad . Turns out he had £2 on it and the return was huge for that time when money was tight indeed. My Dad decided that rather let the money go to waste he would go up to the bookie and collect his mates money. A sad ending to a night out for one of them but as my Dad said better in his pocket than the bookies...Call it Karma if you like but heading to work in Islington in 1971 my Dad collapsed and died also from a heart attack....
