I do think that the in running place market is pretty hopeless these days, fear. Pre-race is alright except for the removal of the 3 place markets for less than 8 rather than keeping 2 place markets.

I would equate betting in the pre race place markets as like trying to milk a dead cow so can't imagine how poor the liqudity is for the in running ones.

are you guys that play in it just backing at 1.1 and below ?

I asked you that as an ordinary punter barton. If you want 4 figure bets on then we all know the answer but I don't worry too much about the really big punters. Considering you can comfortably get 3 figure bets on in the place markets here then that is something no other bookmaker or exchange can offer.

Betfair was invented so punters like barton could get on surely? What changed? Obviously insiders robbing people couldn't be tolerated but opinion based punters shd be able to get on.

I just chose the next race following barton's post about 16k. But it has proved my point about betfair's ridiculous decision to keep the 2 place market and remove 3 place markets in relevant races.

But don't you think that total I posted illustrates the weakness of the markets, sparrow? I didn't handpick it either and some races are worse. It was just the race that was about to take place.

You don't get what you want on that's the point. I place laid a horse the other day (which was a trier imo) and I started laying at 1.8 and finished at 2.6. And I didn't match a penny until under 3 minutes before the off. That's ridiculous and it just shows that the markets are falling apart. Recently I tried to back a horse at 3-1, it was 6-4 by the time I got 500 quid and there had only been a few grand matched on the horse in total. Again this is in the space of above 2 minutes. If you think that isn't a worrying trend fair enough.

Strangely enough I bet the 2nd in that race at Nottingham in the 2 place market but 4 weeks ago there would have been a 3 place market as well and I for one would have had a much larger bet. It was a classic example of betfair's stupidity referred to in my earlier post.

We all know that liquidity has fallen in recent years but those circumstances are beyond our control and the only hope is for people to embrace exchange betting. This of course will probably not happen as Betfair make far more profit from their bookmaking activity and so it isn't in their interest to encourage exchange betting. We have been through all this before and all the moaning in the world won't change it.

Why would the ordinary punter suddenly move to another exchange now? 2% commission might appeal to the regular betfair exchange layer or backer but means little or nothing to others.
