What the hell were you doing? Yes it might not be the most genuine but you don't stop riding on a suspect horse in the final 50 yards when only 1/2 length up. What an idiot.
He did stop riding as such, he stopped using his whip in order to correct the horse from lugging into the one on the rail and so has effectively been punished for not breaking the rules. No doubt had he broken them and won, we would have had the usual cliche trotted out that it didn't affect the result because the best horse still won anyway.
If he can maybe be criticised for anything it might be that he had his whip in his right hand to begin with and then pulled it through to his left which the horse then ran away from a little, meaning he then had to correct his horse and pull the whip through again late on, which lost momentum.
He wasn't to know for certain though the horse would lug in and maybe he's left handed anyway and I say all of that having backed it myself.

Oops, that should have said he didn't stop riding as such.
The amount of times that same typo has got me into trouble.....Nearly as bad as sending women a good lick message online.

Yeah cheers for that Deltâ and was just typing that up as you were posting.
And no wonder Francesca never replied to my message wishing her good luck with her (then) new job.
