i suppose you have to think of him as a ' great' jockey only in terms of riding ballydoyle horses ? in which case is he better than murtagh or kinane ? i don't think so .

He was slow away and held up because that was always the intention. Coolmore got their tactics wrong there, they had three runners but allowed Dettori to dictate a modest gallop on the second fav. Moore is no better than any of the other top riders. He has just been luckier than most others getting plenty of opportunities for top trainers at the right time when those stables were flying.
If you don't get the breaks at the right time then this game can be very tough. James Doyle almost gave the game up to become a plumber. |

Moore is not even good, in my opinion, just lucky to be around present mediocre jockey with the exception of Dettori; he certainly is no Murtagh or Kinane.
The howlers he made repeatedly in last year's Royal Ascot and America were shocking for a reputedly top jockey; he was woeful. |

I did ask quite a while ago for an example of a 'brilliant ride' which only the greatest jockey in the world might be capable of but quite surprisingly none has been forthcoming.

And gives sweet **** all back to either the sport or the common punter in terms of interviews,demeanour,time. Tragic he won top jock again, gave some thoroughly appalling rides over the course of the week. |

Starved of his ability for a couple of days the great man returns at Newmarket tomorrow. Having narrowly missed the predicted treble at Pontefract it wouldn't be any surprise at all if he is setting his sights on a six timer. Anything's possible.

As Johnny Mustang says he's clearly the best jockey of his generation and by quite a long way. Stoute hasn't appointed another stable jockey since Moore left because he knows Moore is easily the best and though he doesn't get him very often these days it's still been worth taking the chance. Even Haggas until this season would put him up whenever possible. He's just decided he doesn't get him often enough so he's using the also excellent James Doyle whenever possible (much more often) now. Between O'Brien, Stoute and Haggas we are talking 3 of the best 4 or 5 stables in the Uk and Ireland but somehow they are wrong and the forums mugs are right. You couldn't make it up.
Sadly we live in a world where people want to knock the people at the top more than ever before so Moore suffers the brunt. It's quite noticeable that he's judged in a totally different way to virtually anybody else by this forum. If he comes 7th on a horse that might have been 5th he gets slaughtered even though it makes virtually no difference to anyone. It's all a bit silly and smacks of mug punters requiring someone else to blame so knock the man at the top. |

Just because he rides the best horses doesn't obviously make him the best jockey in the world. If people think that, fine, but it is their opinion, not fact.
You don't have to be a mug punter to take an opposite opinion. That just spanks of someone who has no real confidence in their own opinion and can do no more than offer a cheap, unsubstantiated swipe at whoever disagrees. |

Moore has been woeful at Royal Ascot this season and last. A few of his fancied mounts were not even placed to challenge let alone ridden to win; just not acceptable from a "top" jockey.

Judging Ryan on Delano is harsh. The horse is one of those that finds a way to get beat. He can be keen and therefore has to be dropped in to settle, but he has no gear change and just plugs on, sadly unless a race is run at a flat out gallop, he will always hit a flat spot when a race quickens and then stay on late as he plugs on past beaten horses. Horses like Delano make fools of you, a strong traveler with no change of gear, but likes to pull hard early, but wouldn't be able to go any quicker if you just gave him his head and said go on then. The only race I would ever like to back Delano in, is an Ebor or a staying handicap where you know they will go flat out and he can just plod on through, sadly his current handicap mark will make that an unlikely option ever, but I suspect he will end up sold for 200K or so at the end of the season to the Aussies.
