Where have all the Lords and Lady owners disappeared to, When I started backing horses in the 60s we had loads of Lords and Lady owners, Just checked through the card for Royal Ascot today can't see any owned by a lord or lady and only one owned by a sir. How times have changed.

Dannyday in the 5.00 is owned by the Rothschild family, but with Lady Rothschild now deceased, it runs in her sons name.

They have done away with Hereditary Peers, in the 'Arse of Lards'

The Toffs cannot afford to own racehorses now ... since their daily Allowance went up the spout.

It is sad in a way that the old names are gone. In my youth the likes of Sir Lionel Holliday. Duke of Norfolk, Lord Howard de Walden, Lord Weinstock among others were the owners you looked for. Most were owner breeders and had good horses every year. Now we have the Arab contingents of which Khalid Abdulla and the Aga Khan are the best, plus Coolmore, Niarchos and some far eastern owners who dominate the top races with a healthy sprinkling of syndicates like Elite and Highclere and some new money such as John Dance and the King Power racing group to provide some competition.

Lord Roseberry was one that I used to follow when John Gorton was riding for him, also what about the owner of the great mare Park Top, The Duke of Devonshire.
