when Richard Quinn was stable jockey, lots of the 2y olds were automatic favs and lots were winning first time out, then Alan Munro came in and it all went pear shaped !

Not a world beater by any means but Step Ahead was a good 2-y-o, about late 70s.

And who can ever forget White Wonder - pure white horse

or Tosan, totally black.

He was also a great trainer of jockeys. He produced 3 Champion Apprentices in Robert Edmondson, David Dineley, and Richard Quinn.

Mark Malham was also another good apprentice he had but he didn`t win the championship. Whatever happened to him?

In fact, whatever happened to the 3 champions? Last I heard Quinn was learning to become a trainer but nothing seems to have materialised.

Mid late 8os lots of first time 2yo winners some at very rewarding odds. Many didn't go on as 3yos though.

The great Peter O sullevan remember one of his comms involving a Cole 2yo that always makes me chuckle.

Generous was a good 2yo (Dewhurst huge odds) that did go on to make a smart 3yo!!!

Was unlucky that principle owner Fahd Salman died in his 40s,didn’t he jock Quinn off just before the Derby and appointed Alan Munro?
Remember him winning about 3 2yr races at Royal Ascot one year.

Unfortunately, 2018 owners don't have such long memories. It's almost a miracle if the likes of Cole and Cumani train any sort of winner these days.

Quinn lost the Salman rides  ultimately because of him being unhappy over a ride he gave Generous I recall.
Dilum was a monster 2yo but was a classic case of a Cole 2yo not training on at 3.
When Berkshire won at Royal Ascot I really thought he might have one to put him back on the map, but it was not to be.
Sarab was one of my favourite PFI horses. A 7f specialist who was not quite as good over a mile.

Quinn rode over 2000 winners which is quite an achievement. He still rode for Salman after he lost the ride on Generous. I think it was following a ride in Ireland for Salman, that he lost the ride on Generous, but I can`t remember the name of the horse. He was very unlucky to be 1st jockey to Sir Henry when Cecil was going through arguably his worst spell, but still rode some very good Cecil horses and loyalty to Sir Henry helped Cecil get back in the big time.

Sir Henry Cecil's 2 year old's in 80's would be tough to beat also loved Jack berry's, two legends.

About 10 years I got told by someone connected to the stable that they had a flying 2yo called Shampagne.  Manged to get about a grand on scattered everywhere.   Horse gets beat 1/2 a length by a David Evans horse the pair 7 lengths clear of everything else.

Shampagne obviously wins his next 2 races and goes on to be rated 104.   The Evans horse never came close to winning again in its further 14 runs.

That's racing !!

cole's demise had nothing to do with alan munro who soon left for HK, having won many big races for him, nor richard quinn's fault who was very professional
