I loved Mellottie!
Report SHADDER October 31, 2017 8:30 AM GMT
ormer highly successful dual-purpose trainer Mary Reveley has sadly died at the age of 76.

Reveley trained over 2,000 winners in a training career spanning 22 years and just last week became a great-grandmother.

Reveley started off her training career with four horses in 1982 but excelled under both codes in the following years, enjoying Cambridgeshire success with Mellottie in 1991 and victories in the Spa Hurdle at Cheltenham and Mildmay Novice Chase at Aintree with Cab On Target.

Reveley's son Keith: "It was all just very sudden. She had been out in the yard with Gillian [Boanas] and with the horses and suddenly collapsed. It's a huge shock.
"The only good thing is she wouldn't have known anything about it and she has passed away doing something she absolutely loved.

"She lived for her horses all her life. She started with point-to-pointers and loved hunting and had show ponies – she was just always involved with horses. Her love of racing spiralled in the 1980s when we got the full licence.

"The yard was absolutely flying in the late 1990s and early 2000s. It was a fantastic time and I don't think we appreciated it as much as we should have at the time. It was an unbelievable run and they were great days."

Reveley is also survived by son John

Excellent trainer but lousy horse box driver -- I used to oppose hers whenever she announced on telly she'd driven the box. I was never really sure whether she had a lead foot that used to shake them up, or perhaps a slow carbon monoxide leak, but it seemed to work. In hindsight it was probably just coincidence and the televised races represented a step up in class.

Old Red did me a favour when he won the Cesarewitch.  R.I.P. Mary.

I once missed a great picture at Redcar with her, Mick Easterby and Jim McGrath heads close together in conspiratorial mode. I missed a winner as well as Jimbo had the winner of the next race.

The only time i met Mary was at Sunderland dogs as she bred a liitter of pups. You could tell how passionate she was as the pups were parading (shaking) my impression of Mary was a very quiet woman who loved her animals and stayed away from publicity. R.I.P a legend

my niece rode her first winner under rules for mrs reveley.

rode the horse a couple of weeks before when the saddle slipped when looking the likely winner, she was not connected to the yard but mrs reveley still put her up nto and she bolted up at nottingham.
