I bet a lot on horse matches and the place market, but recently every time i try to place a bet the odds are gone immediately. I have even clicked on the other horse just to see, and it happens then also. Anyone else experience this?.
your complaint on hear might be picked up by the betfair people but it's not guaranteed
lodge an official complaint to the betfair help desk who will run a series of test on your behalf to find out what the problem is

you fancy one at 60.0 in a big handicap, there is £10 in the back box, it has been available for a good 10 minutes, you contemplate your decision for about a minute and finally press back, your £10 then appears in the lay column a millisecond after the original amount disappears.

It would probably need a commercial bot that can identify incoming bets and cancel offerings before your bet hits the market. Im not sure who would have that facility tho!!

cross matching software between win, place and ew markets I think I have narrowed it down to.
the correlation between the three is in real time and I assume in house bots cross match them and also take the arbs along with it.
so in essence, if you are matched, you have been arbed by the bf bot.

The bots could cheat but it would not look quite like this.
What the OP (and others) see is exactly what you'd expect if there are lots of punters about. We each imagine, sitting at home, that there is just me and the machine. We forget there are hundreds of other punters trying to take the price as soon as Tommo mentions it.
So most likely there is no cheating.
But if there were cheating, this is how it could work. My bot puts up (say) £1,000 to lay at the price. A backer comes along and takes (say) £100. It does not really matter whether the backer is laid by my bot or someone else. My bot sees that trade and immediately pulls what is left and resubmits (or not) at a lower price.
So what most people would see is the price disappearing, but one person will have been laid. It is sharp practice rather than illegal, and is not markedly different in concept from a bookie wiping the price off when a queue builds up.
If I am right there is no way in the api for a bot to see an incoming bid for a matching offer, and then withdraw the offer before the bet is matched. The only way that could work is if Betfair has accidentally **** the api with undocumented test functions.

you try to bet a horse to £20 at 60.0 in the win market, the £20 belongs to an in house bot, you back it, in the intervening milliseconds the bot decides if it is value to match with you, it cross references with other markets (place, ew)
