Doesn't matter whether it's 2 runners or 32 runners we know where Frank will be positioned - The most one dimensional, predictable jockey riding today.  On the rare occasion these last to first tactics of his come off,the pundits go completely overboard eulogising over the ride, conveniently sweeping under the carpet all the times it goes so terribly wrong..

thats very true

but why hold the horse so far back,, from the start

Report Aladdin Sane August 11, 2017 3:57 PM BST
Unitedbiscuits - apologies if you meant me. My comments were more of a general observation rather than relating to any specific rides he may have had today..
Report Barton Bank August 11, 2017 3:57 PM BST
I didn't back the horse, just a general comment on my part. One based on over twenty years experience of watching and betting on racing.

He was upsides the winner 2 out and travelling better but found much less than the winner. There was nothing whatsoever wrong with that ride

Jamie's not having a mare because Jamie doesn't care. His last two rides, held-up tactics the on both occasions mount taken very wide. I'm beginning to believe that Mr Spencer enjoys the notoriety his arrogant antics engender! Jamie, just like Ruby doesn't give a sheet, he believes he is beyond reproach and who could say otherwise?
Report firstimevisor August 11, 2017 4:15 PM BST
Any jockey worth his salt should really not give a sheet what keyboard jockeys think of them

Leave serious discussion to the big boys- it's apologist masochistic clowns like you that allow Jamie and Ruby to indulge their egos without censure. Now do us all a favor and save your pocket money and buy premium bonds, there's a good lad!
Report Barton Bank August 11, 2017 4:49 PM BST
Of course they shouldn't care what "keyboard jockeys" think of them. They should have enough initiative however to not keep riding the same badly-judged races time and time again.

Given Frank's well-known propensity to lose more races than he should, can anyone satisfactorily explain to me why trainers continue to employ him?
Report ihal essex August 11, 2017 7:36 PM BST
Zygote: the guy is talented but only uses that talent periodically, like when he's riding for owners like Michael Buckley and a Jamie Osborne job horse!
Report firstimevisor August 11, 2017 7:47 PM BST
Zygote, the reason trainers employ him is because he is a top class jockey and the trainers are well aware of it, even if many punters are not.
He has one of the best pair of hands in the game. Horses run well for him because he gets them settled and they finish out their races well. Thats why he gets such stick here - as a general rule his horses are switched off and finish well, which doesn't necessarily mean they were unlucky when they don't win.

But people just love to see every horse ridden from the front, no matter how strong the pace is, just get to the front! Why this is so is beyond me.There are far,far more races lost by going too soon than by leaving it too late yet you would rarely see threads about it.So called positive rides are more often anything but.

Jamie is a massive talent - as Senna or the Tiger was - as was Fallon - they both have f*cked up more rides(and to a degree their careers)  than they should of , by getting it wrong too often ,trying to be to flash & coming from behind - miss timing it & coming second (KF more due to perceived dodgy connections than holding up) - JS  will still go down in history as the guy who lost more races , that he should have won -more so than any other jockey - by always holding up - coming too late & not getting there.

As for Tiger, the last time I looked in the record books, he is still the most successful golfer ever. I rest my case.
