Roger Charlton is indeed a top man. I owned a quarter-share in a filly he trained a few years back. She was quite inexpensive relative to most other horses in the yard but he couldn't have treated me better if I'd been the sole owner of a dozen pricey yearlings. Nothing was too much trouble for him and if I'm ever able to afford to do it again I'd have another horse with him like a shot. Thoroughly nice guy.

The Man's A ****.

Several years ago and I wish I could remember the name of the filly.  Decent 2yo with pretensions of being Group class, first time out as a 3yo.  I found myself standing next to him on the lawn opposite the big screen at Goodwood. She was placed, and he was obviously disappointed. I looked at him and said "not too bad", he looked at me and said "No, not too bad. Thanks" 

The bloke's a real gent, as my Uncle Jack used to say about several old school trainers.
