Took a transistor radio into school and listened in with the desk lid up. Didn't realize at that age (10) how deaf I really was, and how high I'd turned the volume up. Once the race was over, I put the lid down and found the whole class looking at me, p1ssing themselves.
"Did you back the winner?" enquired Mr Gutteridge sourly.
"I don't know, sir. Couldn't hear it."
