Anyone remember RODMAN, a Fred Winter novice hurdler?
It won umpteen races in a streak which, needless to say, ended in the Daily Express Triumph Hurdle in the delayed final day of the 1978 Festival. Can't remember what it may have done after that. |

In Born Lucky Francome recounts the story of Winter casually enquiring whether he'd stopped Rodman in that Triumph Hurdle. Someone's dentist had told Winter that Francome had been offered 5 grand to stop it, and he felt he ought to ask.

Someone mentioned Arazi above and although it's not one that readily came to my mind he's got to be up there. I suppose you could argue that he was a superstar, as a 2yo, but his failure to train on just proves you cant take anything for granted between 2 and 3.
I would give a mention to Black Jack Ketchum who, although superstar might be stretching it, looked like he might dominate the staying hurdling scene for a few years and then went out like a light. Crazy horse (again mentioned above) was never imo never going to be a superstar but he's right up there as one of my favourite horses, superb low head carriage and on his day could travel and quicken brilliantly. |

this list could go on for almost infinity
the history of racing is littered with broken dreams far more don't make it then actually rise to the top |

I'll just mention a few off the top of my head;
detroit city, made fav for the champion hurdle, runs like a drain and was never the same after that tenby: small horse who didn't really train on and got trounced by his stablemate in the derby forest tiger, hype horse trained by mohammed al-moubarak who got stuffed in his second start john f kennedy, supposedly aiden's derby horse a couple of years back and turned into a carthorse carobee; injuries curtailed this potential superstars career sabrehill looked a potential superstar at the three furlong pole in the juddmonte but then got swallowed by ezzoud and disappeared after that probably so many others I'm forgetting |

was one that started off in fairly low grade races and looked a world beater without winning , adventially ended up with John Gosden and think it ran in the Arc as a 5yo ,did not really stay 12f but travelled well ,cant rememeber the things name.
was a real eye catcher when it first ran ,looked a non as well and caught plenty attention ,was like a candle to a moth. |

Maybe harsh but if memory right FP didn't even achieve 50% strike rate of wins
plus didn't do anything foe my Ante-post voucher for Gold cup Used to love see it run even though it frustrated the hell out of me!! Thought it would be a superstar. |
