It beggars belief.
The Racing game - in fact the country - is being ruined by KNOW NOTHING techy nerds who think that everybody - like themselves - lives all day long on a smartphone, with a pair of earphones welded to their lugholes. I will have to stop at that - otherwise I would be typing out what is wrong until midnight. ![]() |

i tend to use irishracing.com...free, no silly racing post members s.p. after 9am , quicker than them with full results ...and as virtually all the best horses running in both codes are in ireland , why not ?

competition between the s\life and the r\post to design the worst website........think its a draw

The old website had its faults, but given its free access, was very good indeed with simple navigation, straightfoward layout of cards and a comprehensive database of form stretching back to the 1990s. What it lacked was an appealing homepage with decent photos of the racing action.
The old site remains - for now at least - at the address www.sportinglive.co.uk. A domain registered to Sky UK Limited. |

Its A disgrace. No click on owners No video form .No search. Not to mention several other loses. How can that be an improvement. Some Arty Farty Student with an art degree let loose no doubt .

Which clever dick came up with this new Sporting Life site? It's absolutely terrible to read and use.No "at a glance" view with going past form, last run,who led etc etc.I need to find an alternative coz I can't use this new offering.

Agree with everything said on here. The trainer stats- hot trainers 7/14 days was most useful but that has gone. Maybe they will get round to adding some of those useful features but I wont bet on it !
|
|
By:
They've probably come up with a new site that will give them more advertising revenue. People weren't clicking on the adverts often enough, so the old site was probably losing too much money, so was becoming unsustainable to run.
I see some sort of prescription service coming soon (probably have to pay for the 'video form' facility soon). So the reasons for the change are almost certainly financial. |

subscription service...
you´re welcome. ...unless you mean a pharmacy, in which case you are perfectly correct. |

By:
TiptheOdds - HAHA - what on earth was I thinking!!! Subscription of course! DOH! Probably was in my mind because I've just ordered my repeat PRESRIPTION on line to my local surgery!
Funny thing is that I went through the post carefully and checked it and still didn't pick the error up! Deliberate mistake of course to see if you lot are awake! ![]() |

its got nothing to do with money, mobile overtook desktop about 3 years ago and its only going to keep growing, destop wont die obviously but the issue of catering to both has to be dealt with by everyone, not just racing related websites, and responsive designs is the widely accepted current best solution, its not viable for everyone to run 2 separate websites
I dont think sportinglife have done a particularly good job with the website or the way they dropped it on everyone, but im sure they will refine it im astounded by the response to the racingpost new site, at least they went beta with a link to the old site, and compared to atr and sportinglife they have barely changed anything on the new site, it works great on mobile and its absoltuely fine on desktop people just moaning for the sake of it, saying if it aint broke etc, well if you tried to use the old sites on mobile you would see that they were broke, even if you dont use mobile you should remember that you are now in the minority I barely use mobile for anything more than checking results if im out, but I understand why the changes are happening, it has to be done whether you like it or not |

1 site for mobile and 1 for computers, job done

Usually the debate is about aesthetics and yes one person delight is anothers horror but in this case we are talking about dreadful functionality. Important nay essential features removed and even when we have time to get down to the aesthetics we still think its a mess

mobile overtook desktop about 3 years ago
In what respect? For putting bets on or studying races? Someone who works, might study the race on their PC the beforehand, then put their bets on using their mobile while they're away from their PC. I couldn't imagine trying to study a race properly on a mobile. Who does that? |
|
By:
I have to admit to being an oddity in our house. I am a 60 year old ex University lecturer in Computer Science who programs all my own automated betting procedures as well as bet analysis, so not exactly tech adverse and yet in all my 60 years I have never owned a mobile phone. I am considered something of a dinosaur in our house but I honestly dont feel the need for one.
|
|
By:
I noticed they have messed up the "Quick Results" page. You used to be able to get all the results from an individual meeting on this page but not anymore.
Mobiles and Tablet use have ruined this site as well it seems. |
|
By:
it's hardly moaning for the sake of it. if there's money involved, and bookies are getting an even bigger edge than they already enjoy because people can't study races properly, then that's unacceptable.
And as for mobile overtaking laptop, I'm pretty sure the majority of those who bet online still do via a desktop or laptop device |
|
By:
In March of 2015, the number of mobile-only users overtook desktop users, according to ComScore. This is a trend that will only become more pronounced over the next 10 years, as both business and personal users shift away from being tethered to desks and instead choose to access the internet any time from anywhere.
Tech giant Intel (disclosure: client) recently announced that it was shifting its focus away from PCs and onto enterprise business needs (servers) and mobile-enabled technologies, or the Internet of Things (IoT). This doesn’t mean the death of PCs and laptops is upon us, but it does signify that for those creating online experiences, more thought needs to be put into the differences between the desktop and mobile experiences. |
|
By:
That is hardly a defence for the shambles of a provision they have just hatched at the new site
|
|
By:
I don't know anyone who studies horse racing form on a mobile phone !
So there are more people using mobiles only, for the likes of twatter and facelook thingamajigs no doubt ![]() |
|
By:
I DO use an iPAD, but I don't generally use apps on it, but instead use the full websites that I normally access from my desktop. In a lot of cases, the full internet websites are far superior to the sometimes limited info and facilities that you get with apps.
|
|
By:
I would imagine the mobile market is the more impulsive market and lets face it this is the direction bookmaker sponsored web sites want to go
|
|
By:
im not defending their new site per se, just the decision to make it
I think the new site is pretty standard and fine bar the unnecessarily big racecards, but id never use sportinglife to study form anyway, their data isnt as accurate as racingposts and their formbook have never been as navigable the graphs and projections do not look good for desktop, mobile is going to heavily dominate the web but big data, analysis, image/video editing etc will save it from dying completely ![]() |
