just come off the phone to RP customer services to give my comments on the new site.  I find the font size of the form, weight carried e.t.c. too small and definitely smaller that the old site. There is also too much space between the individual horses on the race card, which means more scrolling up and down and all in all this means that I find it much harder for form study.  Apparently I am in a minority and if I don't like it - tough - just cancel your subscription and go elsewhere.  I have been a customer of the racing post in paper form since it started and an online subscribing customer since they first started charging.  Am I really in a minority over my concerns?

You are totally right. It's a mess and has to change.

They would never admit to anything being wrong. Just the usual PR stuff you get these days and what would they know about form study?

Tell them that the whole point of a "beta" site is to take feedback before finalising the layout.

Was highly miffed to go on this afternoon and find the old site gone and the dog's dinner beta site up instead. Just awful. Already contacted customer services twice : cannot get a horse's wins any longer on its profile page as before, and have to change pages now to get the text commentary/live update. Clearly, whoever's responsible for this beta doesn't use the site much. Trainer/jockey stats a complete f*ck up too. Felt like my brain had been scrambled after just five minutes on there.

used to have card, form, breeding, trainer, jockey, odds, results, live text comms all on one page on RP Betting Site for easy one click navigation

now you have to click numerous tabs continually to open up new pages to view it all, whirly circle goes round for an eternity whilst these pages open, back and forth, back and forth

I challenged them by email.... "nobody else has complained"

you couldn't make it up
By:

Just scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Return to Racingpost.com for the old site.

I was also told that the new beta site was an improvement on the old site.  I asked which features were most criticised in feedback and was told that they were not going to divulge that information.  I then asked which features people gave positive feedback on, and was told that they could not divulge that information either.

I asked if it would be possible when ticking 'Pedigrees' on the settings to be displayed on the racecard if the optimum distance in brackets could be displayed as it only entails a few characters and would save having to delve deeper into the horse's form to see it and there was a large area of empty space.  I was then told that they didn't include it because customers would not understand it and they also didn't want to over clutter the page.  I replied that they were happy to put the full first names of jockeys and trainers instead of initials, and that this is useless information but that the useful information which i mentioned was regarded as 'clutter.'  That's the point i was told that if i don't like it i can cancel and go elsewhere.

Does anybody at all think the site is better?  I have also complained but have been told that it is designed to be easier for tablet users.  Unfortunately that's not me and it's just going to make my form study harder not easier.  I suppose I will have to adapt but this really feels like a Ratners moment.

Totally agree about the race cards being too big when viewing on a pc/laptop and having to keep scrolling to view the runners,i asked if they could have a tab to remove the jockeys colour`s on the cards as this would condense the card down but i`m not holding my breath !!

"designed to be easier for tablet users."

I was advised the same.
However, that is quite possibly the biggest load of bullsh1t I have come across in a long time.

How can it be "easier" when you are forever having to go backwards and forwards when you want to switch from one piece of form to another..........it takes phucking forever. If and when the old site is no longer available, then the phuckers will get no more subscription from myself AngryAngry

It would appear that their own analysts are also struggling to read the new site:
6:45 Wolverhampon today:

VOSNE ROMANEE had been off since winning over hurdles in May 2016, but the market spoke in his favour. He won this race easily in 2015 off 2lb higher and, while he didn´t run to the same level this time, he won comfortably enough.

He actually won it off 8lb lower.

There are improvements.
The first thing that hits you when you enter the site are the days cards - an improvement.
Yet how long will that last before they advertise something there instead, and make you work to load the cards like we do on the old site?

After you have selected a race, there is a toolbar that lets you conveniently switch to another race on that card with a single click - another improvement.

Once into a horses form, you can isolate all of that horses runs in each branch of the sport. Like all its runs on the all weather, flat or simply its jumping form without the clutter of the rest to confuse you.
You can do the same with its hurdles and chase runs.
Then they've left in the raceform ratings. No doubt they will go once the site has changed over.
By clicking on the position button all the horse's wins are listed first so that's still there.

Against this we appear to have lost the betting moves before a race. A major negative if  true.
As for myself - I can't copy the bits of the cards I need from the new site for some reason, so it's a dead loss as far as I'm concerned.

I also submitted negative feedback.

the bottom line is this, the old site was past its sell by date, it was a decent site for desktop use but nearly useless on mobile

the new site is in line with modern standards of responsive design, the reason the cards are bigger is so they are a decent size when scaled down, a lot of sites design with a mobile first approach now which scales up, maybe they should add a media query to reduce the width slightly for larger viewports, its one line of css to do

the cards on the home page seems logical because what was the first thing you done 9 times out of 10 when landing on the homepage, click the drop down for the cards

the links to every race at the meeting is a good addition to the cards page, as is the dropdown on the horse profile page which gives you every other horse in the race, the ability to sort on the profile pages is a great addition as well, id say they are the biggest improvement

I think the news page feels a bit cluttered but most of it is members content and im not a member so doesnt effect me

they have done a much better job than ATR, much better

I'd rather pack the game in full stop than start doing all my form study on a mobile or tablet tbh

I'm feeling like that as well.  All the up/down, backwards and forwards needed is much more demanding, plus visually it's a real mess :(  I'm glad it's not just me though that's not much comfort.

if their demographic 'going forward' is mainly going to be viewing on mobile or tablet then inevitably the site will be designed with that in mind, whether us luddites like it or not

Surely the mobile mob are less likely to pay a subscription though? Unless they think it's good value stumping up for birchy's tips or whatever.

Looks pretty and probably great for occasional punters but too slow for serious for extended form crunching. If you pay for any of the levels of membership you ought to be offered the option of the simpler, quicker to read site. You can still use the old cards if you google racing post bloodstock and go into cards from that section of the site.

Hang on about ATR oneyallbeenwaiting4. The ATR site is just a bit clumsy that's all.

In my view the ATR individual horse form page will now be better for some people than the one on the new racingpost site

Especially since that the new racingpost site has removed the win prize money totals column and lumped the win prize money in with the total prize money.
The loss of that column will drive many people to the ATR site where that information is available.

Then when they get to the ATR site, they might be pleasantly surprised to find that each run of a horse's form, clearly shows the number of days between each run.
The ATR site is the only place where this data is shown.

With the loss of the pre race betting moves from racingpost, and the win total prize money column removed. I for one won't need the racing post site at all.

And here's another little beauty missing from the racingpost site which is available elsewhere on the Sporting Life site.
When you move down the list of a horse's races and hover over a race to bring up the comments pop up. Included in the Sporting Life comments are the betting moves.
To find this information on the  racing post you have to open up each individual race.

The new racingpost site has missed many a trick and they are taking a major step backwards with this new site.

Mark my words, they will drop a massive clanger if they force people to use it.

Since the massive downgrade of the betfair website a few years ago I've hardly bothered placing a bet through it. Luckily I can use gruss to make the whole process much simpler.
In a similar vein then, what would be ideal is a customised browser that converts the form from the new racing post site into something more legible like the old.

You can't use the old cards for much longer though.  Within a few weeks we will all be forced to migrate.  Does anybody know where the 'printouts' button has gone?
By:

Ok, I have found the printouts button.  I like their claim that the new site 'supports any device'.  Yeah right, just makes it harder to use on a laptop

lordnoise is that their plan I wonder?

To make the old site only available to subscribers, and make the freeloaders use the trashy new site?

Lol, you might have something there.

Dr Crippen, if you read the OP it would seem that their plan is more to tell existing subscribers to F off.

MM they haven't been taught the first rule of dealing with a customer base.

Which is ''The customer is always right.''

They're about to learn it the hard.

I'd like them to make it their plan to offer a simpler site given that some punters prefer displays with less distracting 'noise'. They recognised that requirement when offering standard (with jockey colours etc) or at a glance (just text) cards on the old site.

BTW anyone else got a way of getting to the old site or at least access to the old cards ?

Their first rule is "The bookies are always right"
But there's only so much fresh meat they can throw them for the ridiculous sign-up offers.
I predict they'll be finished within 5 years.

If the new model is to maximise revenue from punters clicking through to the books rather than paying a subscription, surely Bruce should be lobbying like mad for his bookie chums to keep more accounts unrestricted?

Another luddite signing in wondering if modern website designers are demented.

This harmonizing to fit all sizes of screens just means a worse experience for everyone.

Not used the beta much, well why would you if the old site is still there but tried it on my smartphone and it's abysmal.

It's not even so much about the nuts and bolts, I'm sure they have added useful features like mentioned in this topic but if like the ATR site for example, the first thing that catches your eye is the stupid side scrolling sub menu every time you scroll up and down the page or the jumping dancing pop-ups from the mouse-overs as you try to navigate and READ then I have no desire to go beyond the first page.

Will give the new site a go when forced to but don't look forward to it.
