Bookies are a joke as anybody who has the audacity to win even small amounts gets restricted or account closed,i would like to know how these professional punters get there bets on if they do not use an exchange as they can only have so many putter on ers until they are exhausted.

more to do with what you're punting & the price you're taking.  constantly beat the price, you'll get banned even if they all lose.

I think the last time I tried to take one of their prices, the max stake they would allow was £2.87

Seven Sisters Stan James yesterday afternoon had two bets not beating SP £160 13/8 Gunnery and £140 2/1 Opinionate then called to counter and told £25. max on anything and everything. Not his doing and he sympathises but I've taken half the days horse profit according to his just received email. What a bunch of ****s, not the Manager he was resigned to being the messenger reliving a Groundhog moment.Fred opposite did the same recently, fair play to Paddys opposite as they let you have a go if they know you're prepared to bet a few fancies.

Boyles are the worst I have ever come across, had 3 bets a few weeks ago and one of them was the free bet and then couldn't even get a tenner on one after reducing the bet size from 100 down.

Correct. Consistently beat SP, and it's not so much how much you win, they just don't like the way you lose. I often wonder if shareholders are aware of the practices of some big bookmakers.

How can you not beat SP though? Stick a pin in the paper and more times than not you will beat SP, it isn't hard if you are betting in 110% books and the SP book is far higher. The "beating SP" is just a red herring from the books who have no interest in racing, and don't want to take a bet because they are ran by clueless bean counters who want you in their casino.

What is "fair" about punter A (birchy and the like) having £200 @ 8/1, whilst punter B is restricted to £1.23?

It's about time the gambling commission got on and implemented these conditions

Boyles are not so bad!!!!!  Having been told that I am no longer welcome to bet with them on Horses or Greyhounds, they assured me that I could still use their Casino and also bet on Football.

Not surprised Sid James made a pre tax loss of over half a million last year. Having sold the online business they had to rename the shops and what have they come up with, megabet, it should be meganobetunlessuramug

I used to respect Boyles at one time they used to give me a matched £50 bet around Cheltenham every year.  Based on the replies I guess what they don't like is I tend to only bet with them when they are best price so I've been binned.  Sadly the days of having 14 accounts and shopping around to get best prices are long gone.

I've spoken to someone at the Gambling Commission at one of the betting industry trade shows and made this exact point - apparently they don't think bookmaker restriction is in any way in their remit (the Gambling Commission person I spoke to was a former Ladbrokes trader).

On a side note, it would be a fair bet that the Chair of the Gambling Commission is having lunch with Jim Mullen at this moment...

The sad thing is millhouse is that nobody will even be shocked by that.

So basically anyone can have a bookmakers license without having to have to take a bet of any sort? As long as they pay a fee no doubt.

Don't forget that even just 20-25 years ago every single punter was restricted to £0.00 on these bets, simply because only a small number of the higher-quality handicaps were priced up. For every n0v hurdle, seller, 0-60 handicap it was SP only, sir, just like today, except it applied to everyone.

I don't know why the bookmakers all suddenly felt obliged to offer prices on every single race, but if they reverted to how they used to do business, and offered SP only until first show from the track, then they'd avoid all this aggravation.

It's not as if they need to offer prices to get their card marked, as this wretched site does it for them every race for free.

whats the point of pricing anything up when you're making a guaranteed 4 million quid a week from the fobts.
