I hate the phoney sentiment expressed when a successful horse is killed or injured in action. Hundreds of horses die each year but no mention of them if they are below average ability. In most cases a fallen horse becomes known as "the loose horse". Horses are just the tools of the trade.

Report Happy Valley December 31, 2016 9:35 AM GMT
George - Hood because I believe she is not a nice person at all, according to my sources within Newmarket council

Mulholland because he's too damn tricky to follow in handicaps!

Mark Prescott because his atavistic views belong in to a age long gone and, while this is purely my own view, I don't believe it is good training to get decent stock, or even very decent stock, sent to you from owner breeders, and win five small races at short prices.
Report posy December 31, 2016 10:12 AM GMT
Had to look up the definition of 'atavistic' !
Report GEORGE.B December 31, 2016 10:14 AM GMT
Thanks for the reasoning, Happy Valley.

I wouldn't have a clue about Hood other than what I've read in the paper regarding the Hatchfield saga.

Suppose I could have guessed the other two, though I thought Mulholland might have been more along the lines of how does he do it? Wink

As for Prescott, I've always wonder how he would have handled Sea The Stars, if he'd been sent the horse. I've have visions of the horse appearing in three backend maidens, big, backward and absolutely clueless; then reappearing as a gelding in a 0-65 at Brighton in June, rattling up a sequence of wins, reaching a rating of 92, before being sold to Graham Wylie for £200,000!
