Im amazed punters are happy for them to settle bets and then rejig the result. Surelly they should be waiting on the official result before settling? Once your paid your paid it should be that simple and it shapes how you bet on the next few races. To just resettle is not acceptable imo and make your account negative.

The conspiracy theorists probably thought Niall had to give that weight a big tug to get it out of the ripped bag. Maybe they will ask RUK for a slow motion replay of where the weights dropped out.

Official result says Snapping turtle won.

Report Gwanyaboyya!! December 13, 2016 3:22 PM GMT
Keefter, Yeah I'm curious about this. I backed him pre race, then stuck up a lay mid race as I usually do. Everything was matched yet the money from my lay is gone and my stake from the back is back in my account. In other words, it's been settled as if it was a non runner. Never happened to me before so I admit I need to read the rules regarding this type of disqualification.

Report bookie 25 December 13, 2016 3:29 PM GMT
TheFear i understand that but if Betfair want to model their business on that then it should be first past the post, otherwise they should wait on the official result. They shouldnt be settling quick and then taking funds from your account. I backed the winner/disq horse and then backed a couple of losers. I then reloaded and they resettled taking the reload and making my account negative. No email from CS or nothing. You shouldn't be allowed to bet with funds that are not OFFICIALLY yours. That imo is dangerous ground for Betfair.

Report bookie 25 December 13, 2016 3:43 PM GMT
Kjansch no it shouldnt be void. They should either honour their mistake in settling early or should ament the Tc & Cs to first past the post if they want to settle early or wait on the official result. Nobody should be able to bet for half an hour with money that is not OFFICIALLY their money and Betfair are allowing that to happen and then expecting punters to pay it back if the result is amended and they lose.

there is no opinion involved in a jockey weighing in light and no punter should be able to gain/lose because of  this scenario

in running players need protection or don't have any in running at all

It is a completely different scenario to horses carrying overweight, stewards enquiries based on interference and photo finishes, all of which can be opined on.
these races where the jockey/horse is unable to meet the requirements of the race should not fall on the shoulders of the in running player and should be voided.

surely the reason people lay 1.01/1.02 about horses when they're virtually past the post is to hedge the possibility of an objection or scales problem.the traders who go around hoovering up these short prices thinking its a done deal should expect the occasional setback.
Report kjansch December 13, 2016 11:33 PM GMT
i would say it is to hedge but not for reasons given - more to secure their position or trade for profit.
Maybe you're right though..but it happens so rarely that it is out of the range of betfair odds so good luck playing that angle

How can you void all in running bets when the actual second would probably have won with the first past the post winner carrying the correct weight (in the majority of instances)? If I was on the second and only had my stake back I wouldn't be happy at all.

Report asparagus December 14, 2016 11:53 AM GMT
I don't get this idea that 'Snapping Turtle would have won if the winner had carried the correct weight'. People seem to have assumed the weights fell out before the race and not during the race and also haven't taken into account that the first past the post was almost certainly idling.

The  betting rules are correct and fair as they stand though of course the risk of skullduggery is a significant one. One day a horse will win comfortably whilst continuing to be laid in running and then weigh in very light.
Report stridingedge December 14, 2016 11:59 AM GMT

The rules have been applied correctly as they currently stand.  Going forward, I cannot see why treating the horse as a non-runner should not apply.   Obviously with the application of an appropriate rule 4.

For all we know the weight could have been lost in the parade ring before the race.   If this was the case, people were backing this the favourite and under no circumstance did they have any chance of winning.  This cannot be fair or ethical.
