Given the Sportsbook is designed for Betfair to lay bets of losing punters directly rather than have them lose their money on the exchange, it is a fair bet that most people punting on the exchange and using the forum can't bet on the Sportsbook.

Report naive November 29, 2016 7:09 PM GMT
yes get on, though rarely to a full stake. Can't blame them or others eg PP who restrict my golf bets. They have a business to run. We as punters have the opportunity sometimes to get the better of them. You can shop around. That's the game and always has been.

Up to now I've been able to get £100 bets on with the sportsbook. But then again I don't try and take the piss as soon as the prices go up,,,

It's just common sense, magic daps. Do you expect them to spend hours of manpower on each race just to stop a few shrewdies having them over. They are only interested in recreational punters. To be honest threads like this don't do a lot for the cause. Genuine punters who want a fair bet not being able to get on is a major issue.

Yes I do. If they want to be a bookmaker then they should put the time in. Taking the p1ss is expecting them to lay a monkey but they won't even lay 20 quid - there is only side taking the p1ss to be fair imo. Why they want to be first to be priced up as early as they do is beyond me, and they get what they deserve. But they won't get hit too badly because no shrewdies even attempt to bet with them anyway, because they cannot get more than a pound on.

The trouble is as mentioned above, they are not even laying your average punter. I am not asking any bookmaker to lay a single person monkeys and upwards at day before the race, but if you cannot lay 20-50 quid bets at your early prices then you shouldn't have a licence imo.

My last 3 bets I've tried to get on with the SB have been £100 @ 9/4- max bet allowed £22.50, £30ew @ 33s- max bet allowed £7.50 ew and £400 @ 7/4 max bet £10. WHATS THE FECKING POINT OF HAVING A BOOK IF YOUR NOT WILLING TO LAY.AngryAngryAngry

Never bothered in the end with all 3 bets.
What makes it even worse is that the prices remain the same for hours and hours so it's not like I'm taking the piss.

It is there for punters that are virtually guaranteed to lose to have as much as they like on and for Betfair to profit direct instead of taking a cut of comission on here.

£22.50 @ 9/4, your just showing off, why do they let you have so much on? You must be one of their favourites!
Report Barton Bank November 29, 2016 9:48 PM GMT
Ultimately the exchange will be allowed to quietly die. Because new customers are actively pushed on to the Sportsbook, they will only end up the exchange if they win/beat the price. Falling liqudity will push people away and it will become a vicious circle of rapid decline.
Report maleuk01. November 29, 2016 9:52 PM GMT
Just tried one, 5/2 max bet £2. I guess they are prepared to lay a horse for a full £5 Laugh
Report Barton Bank November 29, 2016 9:55 PM GMT
I believe that in the long term Betfair may live to regret allowing a profitable exchange and a near monopoly to decay in favour of a product identical to what is being offered by several competitors but I soppose only time will tell.

It just pisses me of that 9/4 is advertised and I can't get fck all on and 24hrs later it's still 9/4.

What I don't get is why on earth are they the first firm to price up if the majority of punters cannot get a bet on, I'm sure someone will come on here to say well they are testing the water so they can correct their book, personally they would be better off opening up last & at least take  a bet of some kind, some of the ricks on their opening shows are laughable imo.
As for not trying to take the p!ss if they put up 16/1 about an 8/1 shot anywhere else if you can get a bet on why would you wait ?
So you don't get restricted Crazy

@BB, what does the future hold in terms of betting exchanges iyo then. As a fellow fulltimer your comments make me a little anxious but at the same time I find it hard to believe that the concept of exchange betting will die with betfair, or am I being too optimistic?

They have been allowing this happen ever since they started their bookmaking antics. No longer do we see any advertising for exchange betting and when you mention betfair to people they think it's just another bookmaker. Personally I haven't bothered with bookmaker betting for more than 10 years now and would hate to have to go back to that sort of punting again.
