what I don't understand is
if you say that likely winners are a very short price about 2 to 3 furlongs out
then surely some of these are good lays

No coincidence everyone is finding it harder since the King of Betfair returned,,,
It's been my worst month in the last 2 years. Liquidity is very thin nowadays. Is there any reason to think things might pick up? 
SIS were allowed to kill in-running and everyone stood by as they did it
The kings are the ones with transactions placed after the event is over ie the fastest picture thieves who are happy to share the proceeds 60/40 with their accomplices Betfair.
The problem with that theory, mmmalushka, is Betfair don't want to go 60-40 on the exes
i only go to 3 tracks..they are £12,000 this year...£14,000 next yr...office rent £7,000......but others have 6-10 annuals and could be paying over £30,000

if 20 track players were given £100,000 each and recalled after 1 year for a count up..there would be about £300.000 missing from the £2,000.000.

horse racing inrunning is a sinking ship dont matter what speed pictures you have if the moneys not in the pot your gonna struggle and cant see why it will improve it can only keep getting worse
Is it horse racing as a whole that needs to be revived, or exchange betting? It seems easy to point the finger at BF but if less people are betting on horses in general then that will kill the exchanges quicker than BFs poor API.
Not played in-running for about 5 years, still think about it now and again, still miss it and go to bed dreaming about how fantastic it must be now. I imagine live video technology has advanced tremendously since those days and everyone watching virtually as live. I see from the tim_uk thread everyone is still winning at least a bag a month and in some cases 27 bags, it must be buzzing on here and I'm seriously jealous of you guys still in the game. My back is killing me dragging carpets around and I go to bed each night dreaming of laying at 5.1 in the place market and having the craic on the forum in between races. I often think of giving it another go ,do you guys reckon it's viable from home watching BF live video with a 67% BF PC rake, I might be a bit rusty, would a bag a month still be achievable ?....I see you share price is doing well so I guess the exchange as gone from strength to strength with all the PC bringing in new customers, I would give my left nut to be involved in the in-running again I absolutely loved every minute the most exciting betting platform ever invented . Hope you guys still enjoying the buzz.
1) Unusual to read ONE person say earlier in this thread how good things were earlier in the year - all I have EVER read on this forum is threads like this - IR is dire, is getting worse by the day, hardly anyone is left and it will soon be FINNISH - and that's been the case for at least a decade!
2) I have been full time IR for 12 years and the last 4 have all been in my top 5 results wise.

MST - great to hear that you are well (apart from the bad back) - the one thing about carpets is, people will always buy carpets. Desperate on here these days, the machines have well and truly taken over...

Its an awful job in summer and theres always some thoughtless cont who ordered a carpet to be fitted and expected the fitter to come and shift all the furniture too.
Then theres kitchen lino.......
But its better than 250 a week on here ffs so takes yer pick.

Just one main thing affecting liquidity on every market here:
Outrageous commission.
Back a horse with £100 at 2.0. It wins. The layer gives Betfair £5, but gives you just £95. The commission comes from the losers, not the winners.
It's bad enough that most punters seem to think that the commission comes from the winners pockets, but it's far worse that Betfair seem to believe that too. How else do you explain them taking so much money race after race from losing punters while expecting liquidity to somehow replenish itself by magic.

Since the coalition/tory government austerity and inequality have mean fewer people have larger amounts but now there are 16million without a pot to piss in (or more than £100 in savings)

these doom laden threads have been predicting the end of in running for years. They weren't correct as it's still here, thankfully.

the XM bot would have been switched off as a result of the non-loader - in those cases markets ofte look like this - especially when the winner was a relative outsider.
I have seen plenty of thin markets like this with the XM turned on keefter .

IMO the betfair bot (if it exists) is a much bigger worry than the track players. Who's to say every bet isn't being followed in? Betfair need to give an interview or something to set people's minds at rest and boost confidence in the product.

watched dundalk last night, one horse went out to 1000 and about 8 seconds later I saw the jockey fall off, the delay is shocking.
Like a few others on here, been hearing the death of inrunning for years. When Betfair floated it was finished, when they merged with PP it was 1.01 finished. Some yearn for the old days where they were getting lumps on when the race was all but decided.Nothing good ever lasts. Can still make same returns on here as I did 10 years ago but playing completely differently to 10 years ago.
My gripe would be not enough people with an opinion during the race and waiting for the obvious to happen before clicking.
I know I played like that.The start of a race and usually the leader will have plenty matched inrunning if you have an opinion
of how the race might pan out.Waiting for the fav to drop out the back of the tele and then wondering why you didn't get matched when trying to lay it is not a good idea.

When the outcome of an event is already known it is no longer a wager it is in effect stealing money from your peers who find out it has fallen half a furlong later.

The point is if real time is natural then the delay is artificial, since its possible for all to see it at just about exactly the same time as those on course.
If companies have their own business plan to make it the way it is AND supply the opportunity why is it the responsibility of those not having the delay imposed to cater for those that do?
