I remember doing a mad reversed forecast on the Triumph Hurdle back in the 90s.
Kissair 16/1 for M C Pipe and Silver Wedge 7/1 for D Nicholson. Kissair won with Dr Leunt 2nd and Silver Wedge about 6 or 7 lengths back in 3rd. Dr Leunt was then disqualified as he had been forced through the fence by another horse at the top of the hill. I can't remember what the forecast paid but I remember getting hundreds back for a small bet. |

Did a yankee many years ago on a Saturday.
Was playing football.Called into town after, and went into betting shop. Manager came out and told me i had 3 winners and a 4th,but the 1st 3 in front had been kicked out.Think the horse was Brook, and it was at Ascot. |

Did back BENNY THE DIP at 33/1 for the Derby after he lost in the Sandown Classic Trial. I saw him win the Royal Lodge and was quite taken.
He then won the Dante and was shortish for the Derby-this was pre Betfair and so I couldn't lay him back. Pat Eddery nearly scuppered me on SILVER PATRIARCH-Benny hung on by a nose.... thanks to Willie Ryan.... |

In 2002 a €30 treble in the PP shop at Leopardstown paid about €1,100: Dress To Thrill; Sights On Gold; Grandera
Grandera won the Champion Stakes by about a millimetre. The only place he was ahead was in the photo. I'm sure Hawk Wing pulled back his head, and Grandera stuck his out. I've watched the video on Youtube and still can't believe Grandera won. My reaction at the time was f***it! Another strange one was my lay of Idaho to finish in the top 5 in the 2016 St Leger. When the race started I was sure the bet wasn't taken and was cancelled. At 9pm that night I looked at my Betfair account and found €225. My €6.90 lay at 1.03 was taken and returned €230. You may remember Idaho 4/6 fav slipped and fell. |

Think the horse was Brook, and it was at Ascot Trimmer, correct, it would have been 1974 in the Queen Anne Stakes. First 3 home disqualified. |

2005 Kentucky Derby decided to trade a horse called Giacomo -was having 50's at 110 and laying back at 100 for a free monkey-just before the race went off he went out to130 and I was stuck with my last bet.All I could think of doing was put up 100 at 20 in running. To complicate matters the wife was in a mood with me after a serious Saturday of sport and wouldn't allow me to watch the race.
Giacomo came from a mile back and I think the commentator only picked him up very late on -very little of my in running bet was matched.I won approx €5K. |

Had ew treble Cheltenham this year, Un Temp at 20/1, was the first one, last two races Wednesday, when 2 horses fell at the last in The Fred Winter, I never cheered and never would, had Saphir Du, going on to Ballyandy in the bumper, won by a nose, I have the photo framed, looking at that is better than looking at Babestation

I was at work and went out to the bakers to put in the staffs sandwich orders and then popped into the bookies to kill time while the sandwiches were being made and backed a 66/1 winner called Pucka Paddy that won by a head, after leading all the way until being headed late on before getting back up again in a chase race at Windsor when they still had the jumps there.
I was also on Royal Athlete when it won the Grand National but didn't take the price and watched the race not even knowing what price it was but was hoping for around 25/1, so was happy when it came back at 40/1 until I heard the bookies reps say they had not taken hardly anything on it and yet still cut its SP from 66/1 at the off. If on actual luck itself though as opposed to just having a nice bet come up, probably when subsequent Ascot Gold Cup winner Drum Taps was FPTP but got demoted to 4th, leaving a horse I'd had a decent bet on called Operation Wolf as the winner. |
