mine was about 7 years ago. i had been doing ew doubles in bad ew races where there was a short priced favourite and backing solid looking 2nd favorites in £100 ew doubles and laying the win part on here and keeping the place double. i was doing them with online firms and was doing alright. one of my bets i had a channon horse called jollyhockeysticks which was 1st at 7-2 but there was a stewards enquiry and it got placed 2nd, the other runner in my bet won at 4-1. i didn't care about the disqualifacation as i had laid the win part on here so it made no difference to me. i was just happy to get another place double up. i logged in to the bookie account the next day and found they had credited me too much money from my bet, £2250 more than what should be returned. when i checked i saw they had settled it as a winning double not just a successful place double. i then discovered that it was settled as a successful win double because they pay out on disqualified winners, i couldn't believe my luck i had got £2250 for nothing basically.

No doubt most people can more easily recall the reverse scenario - and on more than one occasion, too.

Wonder what price it would have gone 'in-running' on here.

Held up, smooth progress from 4th, close 4th and going easily when stumbled and slipped up between 3 out and 2 out, destroyed (op 9-4 after 2-1 in places tchd 7-2 in places)

^ It is unwise to be too dogmatic about where horses would finish when they depart three furlongs out, but Valiramix was simply running away, having jumped beautifully, when a freak stumble brought him down.
He came into the race as the most progressive horse in the line-up and, without wishing to detract from what the winner achieved, looked for all the world like a champion waiting to be crowned.

no joking onlooker it was a lovely day i went of into the middle of the course and had a lie down for a good hour just looking up at the sky.i had backed him before the bula hurdle which that season was run at newbury ,the only serious danger was istabraq which pulled up with a circuit to go.

Had several lumpy e/w bets on Holland to win the 2010 World Cup, top 2, 1/2 odds.  They were beaten 1-0 in the final by Spain; no big deal, best team won, happy enough to pick up the place money.  Bookie in question settled as a winner and I then withdrew faster than one would from an AIDS-riddled prozzie.

years ago on here laid an away team fairly big when 2-0 up at HT at Lyon, think they were about 1.4. Lyon had been strong favs prematch. red was on the reckless side for me. idea was to take out the red when Lyon pulled a goal back but they took until 84', by this stage i couldnt get out without a chunky loss so i left it. 89' markets on screen suspended, then cleared - what a relief, saved at the death, massive win after all. Except when they reformed i found it was 1-3.

staggered away from the PC a bit gobsmacked at the rollercoaster and how much i had managed to drop on a random french game. next day i logged in sadly to reload the account. to find that Lyon had scored twice in IT, FT 3-3, bet won.

of course too old and wise to do that sort of thing these days Happy

I backed Valirimix that day-was already counting the dosh when he had that most unfortunate and freak accident.

You can't be too dogmatic about where he would have finished, but I think AP went on record to say that he would have won easily...

Last summer I was in a London branch of xxxxxxxx and had £60 to win on a horse and took 10/11. Went back later to see the result, it won, so went to the counter expecting to pick up a little over £115. Handed the slip over and the guy asked me if i was OK with 50's. I said sure (only expecting 2 of course). Imagine my surprise when he kept counting them, in total he gave me £660. I acted cool, said thanks and left the shop quickly, wondering why i got paid so much, then realised they had paid me at 10/1 (not 10/11). Obviously the automatic slip reader read it incorrectly (the guy wasn't at fault). The next day i went to Sandown for the Eclipse and put the £600 profit on Golden Horn (won at 4/9) I had planned to go and have a decent bet anyway, but almost a grand profit with zero risk Grin

funny my bit of luck came with a bet on a double as well. it was 1980 and i had got banned from my local bookies because they had overpaid me and i refused to give them the money back. i couldn't put bets on anymore so i'd ask mates to put bets on for me. one day i gave a mate £2 to do me a place double on 2 horses that were around 10-1. when he came back he gave me my slip and said there was a bit of a problem. he said the bookies told him they don't accept place only bets so he wasn't sure what to do and he crossed out place and made it a win double instead. i wasn't happy with this as i thought there's not much chance of getting a win double up with them at those odds. i couldn't believe it when they both won. i got back over £200 which was a big amount back then.

Laying On His Own in the 2014 Gold Cup ......despite it saving me a packet , I still think it is one of the most staggeringly unbelievable decisions ever made by stewards .
If it was the 3-20 at Mkt Rasen or Leicester or any other ordinary meeting it would have been amended result , but you don't think for one minute we are going to amend the result of the Gold Cup do you !

Over 30 years ago the horse I backed at York finished 2nd and the 3rd horse objected to the winner and second. The objection to the winner was sustained and my horse placed 1st. I'm sure onlooker or blackbarn will identify the race, horses and jockeys involved.

Other than that Royal Palace being called the winner of the Eclipse was very lucky !

Posy remember that York race well in the 80s Cumanis Knockando was the easy winner of that race ,think it was the magnet cup ,I had my biggest bet of £80 on the Ray Cochrane ridden Knockando stewards took over an hour there was hell on in the ring a totally corrupt decision I was gutted was staying in York with the Wife for the weekend ,never went to York for years after that !

I'm never that lucky myself, so can't think of anything to add here from my own experience, but I had a mate, now sadly deceased, who had the following happen

he regularly backed lucky 15s to decent stakes and had 3 winners and a 2nd placed horse, but the winner of the race where the horse came 2nd weighed-in light and got disqualified (something that happens about once a year). He won about £20k, no use to the poor sod now and such a decent chap, but when it comes to luck that takes some beating

NFL Thursday night football last year I bet total points overs, can't remember the total but I was only 1or 2 short hoping for points in dying seconds I never got them... log into the betfair forum few days later and where it shows balance I see it's showing £150 odds where it should be nil, I've bet the unders instead! Not a fortune but still a nice surprise!

Last years Epsom oaks winner 50/1.   Laid her roughly around the 90s mark that morning as I thought she was simple just a pace maker. Pre race her odds started to drift out to 130 on here. So I just thought what the heck those odds are to big so I covered all my losses and came out with about £20 on a 30/1 shot as a free bet. Was well over the moon as I stood to lose quite a chunk of my bank that afternoon if I hadn't taken a crazy chance.  Sometimes a gut instinct can be right.

if the game was as easy as laying "simple just a pace maker" at "roughly around the 90s mark" everyone would be doing it.

and we'd be doing it 100x times what you were doing it ...

good luck though Wink

Picked out four selections, but was very busy at work that day and the first won without me backing it.

Kicking myself (and the firm) I thought sod it, I'll just throw £20 away on a £5 trixie, but was dialling into a conference call while placing the bet so accidentally overstaked it as a £20 trixie.

So through being run off my feet, I inadvertently turned four winning singles into a £30k pick-up.

My mate picked a Lucky 15 on Stewards Cup day a few years ago:

Pether's Moon - cause the missus has an Uncle Peter - won @ 4/1
Winsili - the missus liked the green cap - won at 20/1
Another horse at an away meeting picked because of the name - won at 10/1
Rex Imperator - they used to have a dog called Rex - won at 12s

He's on the phone, I'm trying to work out how much he's won on a beermat. I tell him it looks like about 60k, so he logs into his Paddy account and the balance is zero. A second he hits "refresh" and 37k pops up.
"That's not right" I say, and frantically get recalculating.
He hits "refresh" and it goes up to 99.5k.

Oh that's right he says, when I put the Lucky 15 on I had 3 quid left in my account, so I stuck a £1.50 ew acca on, that must be where the other 37k came from then?
