I have researched this race today and am of the view General Macarthur should be odds against, and the 6/4 available currently is tremendous value. Why? General Macarthur beat Blue De Vega in a maiden and is definitely capable of being competitive at listed level. His run last week at Newmarket, I am putting a line through it, he never got competitive at vital time and Moore never went for him. The race prior, he won at Navan with what looked a stone in hand, he only raced the last 100 yards.
Today's race conditions favour massively, he is getting weight all round, looking at the competition, I can only see 80 rated handicappers at best. even based on last weeks horrendous running he probably ran to 85 or so. For me this is a good thing, the ground is slight concern, but when Aidan runs one back so quick, you have to believe he thinks this is an opportunity too good to be true, that said, welcome the forum's thoughts?
Has not looked the most straightforward or co-operative of animals, tactics will as ever in a small field play a major part and a lot will depend on whether Ruler of France stands its ground (ran last night) as it looks to be the natural pace in the race and should ensure they don't dawdle and then sprint for the last quarter of a mile, if it comes out then GM would probably have to make its own running as the other three prefer to make their run from off the pace and given it appears to have a few quirks it is guesswork whether that will suit, the 6/4 may well prove to be generous but too many ifs for my liking, gl if you play it
