Finally time for Elitloppet

This great event will take place between May 27 and 29, 2016. The winner is decided through two elimination races and a subsequent final on Sunday May 29. The competition is regarded as one of the most prestigious international events in trotting and it is an annual event that has been taken place since 1952. The best horses in the world are invited, and both the eliminations and the final are raced over a mile (1609 meters).

Elitloppet is traditionally raced on the last Sunday of May. Solvalla racetrack holds races thru Friday to Sunday which makes up a meet, known in Sweden as "The Elitloppet weekend".The three days are generally well-visited and is considered one of Sweden's biggest sports events. A total of over 50,000 people attend the events at Solvalla. Having experienced this ”trotting meet” once, you always want to come back.

Oh really ! I went once in the early 90's during an earlier stint living here and actually won, although I only had 2 bets (Mack Lobell) to win the semi and final (both odds on) but I never went back, nor do I go to my local track today. A more boring form of racing (and betting outlet) would be difficult to find, and you often have to contend with trouble in running or 'galloping' (the latter is not permitted and can lead to disqualification).

Andrew In Sweden do they still have the dagen Dubell on tv? I was living there in 89/93.....and loved the bet.Also the new track looks great ton there in November.

Seaside, yes it's still going and televised every day. There's also the V86/V75/V64 and V5 jackpots, although I think the first 3 are only on a Saturday.

remember the v65 on Saturdays as I tried to learn the lingo reading the form!!.Stig Johansson and Toubjorn Johnsson were my favs...my translating meant I missed the 5 places a few times. Re the new track I meant after taby closed last week.

I didn't even know Taby had closed, but I don't really follow the racing over here. Much prefer to travel to UK for the major meetings.
