First 2 might be decent as they were not the quickest away, particularly Isomer, and Andrew Balding 2yo's usually improve a lot for a run.

Fair enough. But for years even the good ones have been slowly into stride and making late hdwy into 8th on their debuts, instead of sweeping past the leader like B Flame did yesterday at Salisbury. Maybe Balding's hit on the idea that teaching them to race and win first time out is a better education than finishing in the middle of the pack under, er, considerate handling.

He has had first timers in the past. Passing Glance was one notable example. I backed it every time it ran after that and showed a big profit.
