I agree with you, mind I finished settling about 30 years ago
By:
I would've given you 7/2 with a 20p rule 4 as it was the 2nd fav and the deduction was to all bets
By:
I would calculate returns @£ 19.76
A WON 3/1 B WON JT 11/4 C WON 7/2 RULE 4 20P / JT WITH A NR AB £ 3.75 AC £ 4.80 BC £ 2.20 ABC £ 8.92 |

I too angelaxxx was a settler in the late sixties, where the 2nd favourite would become the favourite if the favourite was withdrawn. This situation seems to have changed in the latter years, where withdrawn favourites are treated as non-runners. To be honest, they seem to have changed the rules.
By:
In addition, I suggest that your joint 2nd favourite becomes a 5/4 shot and a non-runner to half stakes.
By:
11/4 joint fav equates to 0.875/1 winner
By:
£14.91

By:
Correction , 3/1,14/5 and 7/8 which is £29.16.
By:
£26.29.imo.
3/1 5/8 7/2 with a 20% rule 4. that is spot on . |
By:
Correction 3 winners
3/1 7/8 14/5 £29.16 is defo correct. |

I am putting my reputation up for grabs here but I cannot agree with any of you. For easiness sake I have calculated a £2 trixie at 3/1, 11/4 joint and 7/2 with 20p Rule 4 as 109.25. A £2 trixie at 3/1, 11/4 joint and NR as 55.50. Add those = 164.75. Eighth of that = 20.59.

FRANK RA
the 3rd winner is split due to the nr the joint 2nd favs count as 7/2 minus 20p r4 and a n/r |
By:
Before you correct Frank RA I suggest that you check your addition.

This would have been the last and hardest question in the settlers exam.

By:
in my opinion race 1= 3/1 winner
race 2= 7/8 winner race 3= 7/2 r4 20p =14/5 winner(a)and n/r(b) (to split stakes) hence 1 & 2= 3/1 + 7/8 =3.75 3.75 2 & 3= 7/8 + 14/5 25p stake = 1.78 7/8 and n/r to 25p stake = 47p 2.25 1 & 3= 3/1 +14/5 25p stake = 3.80 3/1 amd n/r to 25p stake= 1.00 4.80 trebles (x2)= 1.875 singles with 14/5 and n/r = 7.13 + 1.87 = 9.00 9.00 19.80 rounded so prize goes to SHADDER |

Looks like plenty of settling in the past has sent 1 or 2 mental

becca you idiot, you can't use decimals with fractional sps. I'll just ignore your stupid post!
By:
shirley the stakes are split onto the two jt 2nd favs so he has 25p on the winner and 25p on the N.r
Anyone else get £19.80 |
By:
You're another one calculating in decimals.

jmdc eh ?

So what is the answer for a £2 trixie? Should be four times what you say.
By:
50p Trixie!!!!
By:
kenbo, I am trying to explain how all this rounding is inaccurate. If it were a £2 trixie it would return 4 times the amount. 4 times 19.80 (79.20) is incorrect! It should be 82.37.
By:
The NR is unnamed and therefore the other selection becomes clear 2nd fav with a R4 deduction.
The NR is not 2nd fav it is a NR! |
By:
^ Quite correct. I have been given the wrong info and will recalculate.
By:
FrankRA is nearly right. With crash-blocking the right payout is 27.31.

how much was our bet for jmdc, I'll take paypal ...

I have only just looked at the result delta. I settled on SHADDER'S incorrect info. Our bet still stands.

Give it one more try jmdc . Remember your reputation is "up for grabs".

I was only trying to be helpful to OP imo the third leg would be settled as follows to a £ 1 stake 50p @ 7/2 minus 20p rule 4 returns £1.90 + 50p for the n/r total £2.40 therefore a 7/5 winner. You have to look at it the other way if the other 7/2 jfav had not won there would be clear argument for return of half stake as the other jfav was withdrawn. we have 3 winners @ 3/1 7/8 & 7/5 50p Trixie returns £ 19.80 |

SHADDER it was returned 7/2 2nd favourite on its own - Little Belter was 7/2 at time of withdrawal, hence the Rule 4 to ALL bets.
By:
From the William Hill rule book
If two or more horse start as joint or co -favourites the stake will be divided equally across each If the favourite is withdrawn from the race before coming under starters orders and a new market is not formed bets placed on the favourite are void. I stand by my assertion that the correct settlement for a bet on a 2nd favourite (regardless of the result) in these circumstances is split stakes between the 2 horses . In this case a £ 1 bet on the 2nd fav would be settled 50p on Lady Poppy (returns £1.90) & 50p on Little Belter (stake returned as n/r) Total return £ 2.40 i.e 7/5 winner |
By:
It appears that the bookies' rules have got the OP by the balls. In this instance, Lady Poppy should be treated as a non-runner. Pay-out should be 13.87 but grossly unfair!
By:
why should lady poppy be treated as a n/r?
stakes are divided half on lady poppy & half returned on the withdrawn horse. That's how the rules read to me. |
