Coolfitch, 1pt win @ 9-1, 5.10 Newbury

It didn't look the strongest of nurseries that Coolfitch won two starts back over 5f at Carlisle, but it has worked out well with three susequent winners coming out of the race, and Coolfitch seemed to win with a quite a bit in hand, travelling strongly but having to wait for a gap from well over a furlong out until inside the furlong, before quickening smartly to put the race to bed.

She was returning from a 6-week break that day and it's quite possible the race came soon enough just six days later under a 6lb penalty over 6f at Hamilton, when she was noticeably on edge before the race and did herself no favours in the race itself over the extra furlong, racing too keenly before weakening inside the final furlong.

She's returning here from a 3-week break here and hopefully will be more relaxed than she was at Hamilton, while the return to 5f should suit; one query regarding her chance is whether she wants the ground on the quick side, but the two times she has raced on good to firm previously came in stronger company (Listed race at York and the Hilary Needler at Beverley) than she meets here.

Captain Bob 1pt win @ 12-1, 6.50 Newbury

Captain Bob probably caught a few eyes on his penultimate run at over 5f at Beverley, held up some way off the pace, meeting some trouble over 1f out, before running on well to just miss third despite not being knocked about; he was sent off favourite on his latest start over 6f at Yarmouth, but failed to settle and paid the price late on.

He's now 11lb below the mark he won off (over 7f) for his previous yard back in June 2014 and the signs this season suggest he should be up to going close off this mark when racing more efficiently.

St Mary's 1pt win @ 14-1, 8.10 Chelmsford
Goldenfield, 1pt win @ 11-1, 8.10 Chelmsford

Now the fav has come out and the race looks more open, St Mary's makes a bit of appeal on this step up to 10f; the notebook run was her second start, over a mile at Windsor, when she stayed on strongly into third, suggesting in line with her pedigree (she's a granddaughter of Oaks winner Casual Glance) that longer trips will be more suitable.

St Marys was then sent up to Thirsk for a mile maiden on what might have looked like a third run for a mark, but she only went and won, pulling clear with the evens money fav (who's rated 86 and has since won a maiden).

That obviously didn't do her mark any good and she was given a rating of 82, which looked beyond her on handicap debut at Kempton over a mile, though she wasn't disgraced behind a winner who returned to winning form off his reduced mark, with a couple of unexposed sorts ahead of her in second and third.

The assessor has eased her 2lb for that run and she is of interest upped in trip to 10f on both pedigree and run style; there will hopefully be some pace on, with Goldenfields a possible pace angle, and he too is of some interest with the possibility he could dictate from the front.

Goldenfields found a Glorious Goodwood handicap too much for him on his latest start but prior to that had been progressing well on a decent surface (defeat two starts back at Windsor when only 3rd of 5 came on soft ground).

It could just be a mark in the 80s is beyond him and he's 20lb higher than when last seen on the AW, but one of his AW runs at Wolverhampton reads a lot better now than it did at the time, particularly as he probably did too much in front, as the winner was Sark, who went on to win the Doncaster handicap in which Red Verdon was an unlucky second, with subsequent winners in third and fourth.

Another positive for Goldenfields is the form of his trainer, who has sent out five winners in the last fortnight.

Unlucky yesterday George

Red Stripes has got cliff horse written all over him for me but I cant ignore him today 7lb lower than his Goodwood run 2 lengths behind a subsequent top handicap winner and a group 1 fourth, especially with the plum draw and a returning 7lb claimer who gets on well with the horse

Good luck today

Good luck mackies and Virgin

Coolfitch ran on well for third and finished with running left in her, but on quick ground wasn't able to reel them in.

Goldenfield dictated as expected and had his chance but the fav was too strong; the filly St Mary's ran OK I thought, but I felt she was never in a good spot, a bit wide and off the pace, but she stuck at it and perhaps may be worth another chance, particularly against her own sex.

Captain Bob, not sure about him after that, unless he'd prefer slightly easier ground (both wins on "good")

Inishmacateer, 1pt EW @ 33-1, 6.00 Down Royal

A bit on the speculative side this one, particularly as the notebook run came on better ground; she's a 5YO mare who's only had nine starts and appears limited as indicated by her lowly rating, but she caught my eye a little on her latest start at Down Royal in a race won by Catwilldo (whom she meets here on 13lb better terms after claims are taken into consideration), being denied a clear run and losing whatever chance she might have had.

There were a few 'firsts' going on at Down Royal, her first run at 5f, her first run in a tongue tie and her first run on a sound surface on turf; if it was the latter that might have been the catalyst for an improved showing then this evening's surface is going to be an issue; a first time hood is added and the tongue tie is retained; she's drawn on the outside in 14 which wouldn't appear to be great, but apparently the stats show it may be a slight advantage.

Good luck George with Inishmacateer, just looked back at that last race, did not get the best of runs but probably just got tapped for toe at the business end hence the squeezing out but did look to still have something in the tank at the end, quite possibly it wont like the conditions but on the other hand a stiffer five on this ground may well help, you would not want to be on easy ground say over seven but quite possibly it may help over the minimum, I make it 15lb better of with Catwilldo & fully see your reasoning for backing this one.

Good luck
Report GEORGE.B August 24, 2016 12:45 PM BST
Cheers for your thoughts, pumphol, you've pretty much summed it, it wasn't one where I was thinking she'd definitely would have gone close but for the interference, but it's caught for my eye as they trying a few different things and it looked she had running left in her at the line. However, as you say, it could be she lacked the pace to take the gap when it was there and that's led to the trouble in running.

Apologies, it is 15lb, could make all the difference!

Good luck with your picks today.
Report GEORGE.B August 24, 2016 1:13 PM BST
I've just had a look back to refresh my memory instead of just referring to what I'd written.

There was never a gap there, it's just a question of what she would have found had there been daylight and if she would have had the pace to have been able to go with the principals.

Whatever, she shaped better than the bare result and at a big price is worth at least one chance to see if there was something there to build on.

[bXenon, 1pt EW @ 16-1, 6.45 Wolverhampton[/b]

Xenon makes a little EW appeal at 16-1; the notebook run was her second start, over 5f at Lingfield (AW), when from the widest draw she was dropped in and I noted her travelling strongly but found found herself on the inner in the straight and didn't get much of a run  before going on at the finish; mixed messages from the form of that novice event, though the winner hasn't been disgraced in Listed company since and the third has gone on to win a maiden.

Xenon's limitations have seemingly been exposed in two starts since but she has faced relatively stiff tasks, with the novice she was 5th in at Chelmsford having been won by Equimou, who has since gone on to finish runner-up to Mrs Danvers in Listed company, while the third has since finished runner-up off a mark of 78 to an unexposed one of Sir Michael Stoute's; her latest start and nursery debut came in class 4 comapny against males and she was out of the handicap.

Xenon has been dropped 2lb to a mark of 62 and this drop to class 6 company looks more realsitic, though that said there look to be a few in here who might have been hiding their lights under a bushel or will be seen to better effect in nurseries / on the AW, but at a price, a chance is taken on Xenon.

Suspicion they might have gone off hard enough there given how the fav stopped and where the winner came from, if that was the case then Xenon wasn't disgraced given she chased the fav from the outset, but it would appear on that evidence that she has her limitations and may need to drop to 0 - 60 company to get off the mark.

I had a look back at Inishmacateer's race and considering 3 or the first 4 home were drawn in 1,2 and 3, perhaps fair to assume that trap 13 wasn't the best, but she ran ok to not be beaten far despite finishing only 7th and not looking entirely comfortable on the track.

Amis Reunis, 1 pt EW @ 20-1, 4.15 Newcastle

Amis Reunis makes a little EW appeal at a price; like a few of the ex-Alan Berry trained horses in recent weeks, she appeared to be punted when she ran over 6f at Thirsk two starts back, but I don't think her chance was helped by the rain that arrived that afternoon (has won on g-s but best form on a sounder surface); she shaped a bit better on her latest start in an amateur riders' race over the same C/D, making up plenty of ground from some way back after rearing at the start.

She has work to do to turn the form around with Sugar Town on that latest start, particularly as the latter is proven over today's C/D and has the services of Adam McNamara in this hands-and-heels race, but the signs are her current trainer has her in good form and despite being slightly out of the handicap here, she's won off higher marks in the past; she's yet to win on Tapeta but I saw enough in a couple of her runs at Wolverhampton for her former trainer (who still owns her) to suggest she's fine on the surface.

Chain Of Daisies, 1pt win @ 8-1, 6.00 Windsor
Tony Curtis, 1pt win @ 10-1, 6.00 Windsor

Ulysees may prove himself a cut above this grade before the season is out, but at the prices a couple of others in the field make some appeal.

Chain Of Daisies looked in tremendous nick when winning a fillies Listed race at Salisbury on her most recent start,  making all the running and staying on strongly to break the course record; that was against her own sex and she's up in class here, but now she has found her form no surprise if this sizeable filly has further improvement in her and she could prove tough to peg back if allowed to dictate from the front.

Significant rainfall may be detrimental to her chance, but there seems some uncertainty about the forecast and with temperatures set to be in the mid-twenties, hopefully the ground will remain on the quick side.

Tony Curtis
is the other of interest on this first attempt at 10f; the notebook run was his penultimate start in a Group 3 at Glorious Goodwood over a mile, where he caught the eye travelling well but looked poorly positioned on the rail in the straight and as can happen at that track, found plenty of trouble before finishing off his race well.

I was disappointed with him on the back of that on his latest start in a Group 3 at Salisbury where he faded out of the places late on and that does raise some concern on stamina grounds for 10f, but he's out of Lomitas mare who won over 10f and is a half-brother to a two-mile winner, plus he had the stamina as a 2YO to win a Listed race over a mile, so there are grounds for thinking he should be effective over 10f, and with the promise of that Goodwood run still fresh in the memory, a chance is taken at a double-figure price.

Well-related filly being a half-sister to Group 1 winner Twilight Son and Group 3 winner Music Master; caught the eye on her debut at Ffos Las when despite greeness she ran on well for third and displayed a likeable way of going; the form of that race took some nasty knocks at Ffos Las on Friday and her yard aren't usually associated with maiden winners at Goodwood, but Jim Crowley is booked and this filly looks sure to have benefited from that racecourse experience.

There are some interesting debutantes in opposition and Chica De La Noche looked unlucky not to win at Newbury, but Twilight Spirit gets the vote at the prices.

"If he runs anything like he did at Goodwood two starts back, he could be a real player here. He has been working really well at home."

Cheers for that, PHS, let's hope he's right. Henry Candy doesn't sound too optimistic, but I think he's a bit of a pessimist!

I should have waited until this morning and I could have had a much bigger on both, but hey, I haven't got time to sit glued to oddschecker to see if prices are gonna drift, I'm a busy man!

Mind, I think I might have beaten the price on the 2YO filly (at the moment), even with the R4, swings and roundabouts...

Poor run from the filly in the first at Goodwood and what was disappointing was whereas at FL she put head down and ran right through the line, today she was wanting to hang right (though might not have been handling the track) and offered little.

The Ffos Las form had taken a couple of hefty knocks, but still disappointing she didn't see her race out better.

Maybe that's why she's with Tony Carroll and not Henry Candy (who trains her Group-winning half-siblings), cuz she's more of a handicap prospect than a pattern class one!

Btw, that wasn't meant to be disrespectful to TC, who can clearly get the job done, but given the breeding / owner, surprised she's not with HC?

The other question mark George, is when did you read Candy's comments? If you'd read them before you'd backed it, it may have put you off backing it at all (which happened to me, along with some rain that was forecast). I ended up leaving a lay up on the fav instead, cos I couldn't see it conceding a 4lb Pen to what I thought was a bunch of good (potentially better than Group 3) horses.
Report PHS August 27, 2016 7:12 PM BST
...but I'm still gutted that I didn't back CoD. Had a back up at 19, looked at the weather and cancelled it. By the time I looked back it had gone 25 on here and was well on it's way on a downward slope on the graph.
Report PHS August 27, 2016 7:14 PM BST
On the other hand, I'd backed Cote D'azur, looked at the weather and traded out, and that saved my stake (although I don't think they really had much rain).
Report GEORGE.B August 27, 2016 7:17 PM BST
PHS, I read Candy's comments this morning on page 2 of the RP. The reporter wrote that Candy believes the race will prove too hot for COD, but the actual quote from Candy was:

"There are no expectations but we thought we'd give it a go. The ground should be fine for her."

Trainer's quotes wouldn't put me off any way, and I think HC tends to be more of a pessimist than an optimist!

Allfredandnobell, 1pt EW @ 12-1, 5.15 Beverley

An 11-race maiden who showed ability in all three of his runs for a mark as a juvenile but has been a bit disappointing since going handicapping, however, he has shown enough this season to suggest he can be competitive in this grade of his declining mark; his latest run is easily forgiven as it came on the Tapeta at Newcastle, but he arguably shaped better than the bare result on his three previous turf starts when not always getting the clearest of runs before keeping on well enough.

He seems suited by some give so could do with the rain that fell on Saturday getting into the ground.

I think it's fair to say the Flat season could have gone better for his stable which had a good season over jumps in 2015 / 16, but they have had a few run well recently and hopefully Allfredandnobell, who is now 12lb below his initial mark, can at least hit the frame here.

David Allan is a rare booking for the yard having only ridden for the stable once in the last 5 seasons.

A couple against the field at double figure prices.

Deeds Not Words, 1pt win @ 12-1, 5.30 Roscommon

The notebook run was his latest one over 6f at Leopardstown in a stronger grade than this, when shaping a good bit better than the bare result having failed to get a clear run in the straight and leaving the impression he would have placed at least; that form has worked out well with the runner-up going on to score in handicap company on his next start and the fourth going on to be placed in Listed company.

Deeds Not Words had shaped three starts back as though his turn may be near when finishing runner-up at Fairyhouse despite not the clearest of passages; there is a slight query as to whether he's as effective over this extended 7f trip, but he was a good third over 7f at Gowran in May before a staying on 5th of 17 over one mile at Leopardstown on his next start.

He's now 3lb below his last wining mark and has a promising apprentice taking off another 5lb, so hopefully everything is in place for a good run.

Gentil J, 1pt win @ 18-1, 5.30 Roscommon

This is a bit more speculative; she caught my eye when she was qualifying for a mark, and her run when sixth in a big field one mile handicap at the Curragh in May looks a lot better now given the winner was Creggs Pipes and the third home was Aared.

Gentil J hasn't been seen since, has changed yards in the interim and now wears a first-time tongue tie, but Shane Foley is a reasonably positive jockey booking (3 from 21 for the yard last 5 seasons), so in the hope the filly is fit enough to do herself justice, a chance is taken at 16-1.

Pacofilha, 1pt EW @ 14-1, 1.50 Goodwood

This could be quite a hot maiden with lightly raced fillies looking open to further improvement on fair levels of form already shown and a debutante holding a Group 1 entry, but at a double-figure price, Pacofilha makes a little EW appeal on this switch to turf and step up to a mile.

She has shaped in 3 maidens at Kempton over 6 / 7 furlongs as though a stiffer test may suit better and there is stamina in her family being related to a couple of fillies who attained black type at 14f, notably the useful Quiz Mistress; her half-brother Ravens Quest has won over 10f on soft ground this season, while her other half-brother Excellent Team was a recent scorer over hurdles.

She's currently top priced at 14-1 but it wouldn't surprise if she drifted further given the opposition and the potential for the debutantes to be supported, but hopefully she can at least challenge for a place if proving better suited to this (hopefully) greater emphasis on stamina.

Applejack Lad, 1pt EW @ 25-1, 7.50 Carlisle

The final selection of the month is very much on the speculative side given he's not wearing his usual tongue tie and the three runs since his reappearance have been poor (though it possible to excuse them).

I selected Applejack Lad on his reappearance back in April at Catterick when I wrote:

This is a tentative selection because this horse is eligible for class 6 races and I'm not a huge fan when such horses step up in grade, but that said, I still think Applejack Lad if of some interest at a price given he's unexposed at middle distances, and he was rated a good bit higher in the past.

Applejack Lad was claimed by Michael Smith out of a Southwell claimer for £3000 in March of last year, having won just one of his 21 starts and seemingly very much on the downgrade; at that point he had yet to race beyond a mile, and had only run on turf 5 times, yet the first thing Smith did was to step the horse up markedly in trip to 12.5f at Newcastle on good to soft, but there seemed little doubt Applejack Lad stayed the trip, meeting significant trouble up the straight before catching the eye with his finishing effort.

His next start over 12.5f at Musselburgh seemed to confirm his stamina for the trip, finishing third behind the well handicapped (at that point) Tapis Libre and Ronald Gee; following a couple of respectable efforts back at 10f, Applejack Lad's last attempt at 12f would prove disappointing, finishing last of 7 at Musselburgh, before ending his season with a respectable run back over 9f at Carlisle.

Applejack Lad ran 3 times over hurdles during the winter and wasn't disgraced on the second of them; he remains unexposed at middle distances on the Flat, and although there's a suspicion he doesn't want it too soft, there appeared to be a good bit of give in the ground the day he caught the eye at Newcastle.

He finished a respectable second that day at Catterick to an in-form mare who had become well handicapped on old form, and although the three runs since have seemingly been poor, two of them have been on Tapeta which might not have suited and the other came in an amateur riders' race when the run might have been needed following a two month break.

Applejack Lad is now able to race off a 4lb lower mark than at Catterick, and while there has to be a concern over what he is currently capable of and the missing tongue tie, this looks more suitable and he has still had few chances at this sort of trip on turf.

Go Nani Go, 1pt EW @ 12-1, 2.30 Bath

Knocking on a bit now and latest run needs forgiving, but his first two runs this season at Bath over 5f suggested he was very much in form, particularly on his reappearance when just failing to get up against an in-form filly; he shaped better than the bare result two starts back in a small field when not having the race run to suit and finding trouble.

My main concern is that he's probably more effective at a bare 5f rather than this stretch-5, but hopefully the fast ground will enable him to see the trip out well enough.

William Cox rides and he's one of the more inexperienced in this apprentice race but he has ridden a sprint winner against fully-fledged jocks and is one of two able to claim 5lb here.

What I may do JD if I have the time, I may go back and see what would have happened if each selection had been followed until it had won a race

So for example, if a horse ran another 10 times this year and didn't win - that would be -10

In Le Menage Enchante's case it would be around +37 (at ISP)

Infiniti, 1pt win @ 9-2, 6.40 Chelmsford

The notebook run was her handicap debut over 7f at Lingfield (turf) three starts back when she caught the eye late-headway monkey style, running on well for 3rd and going on nicely at the finish; it was low-grade fodder but the couple ahead of her were in reasonable form and a couple that were behind her have won subsequently.

The run two starts back at Salisbury was disappointing but it was possible the ground wasn't to her liking and she raced away from the stands' rail which might have been a disadvantage on the day; she returned to form on her latest start over 7f furlongs at Yarmouth when finishing runner-up in what didn't look a very good race, though that said it was the quickest of the four 7f contests on the card and the winner had the advantage of being ridden by a decent 7lb claimer .

Infiniti has to prove her stamina for a mile on this switch to the AW, but she is half-sister to a dual Polytrack scorer (albeit at a lowly level) and the way she shaped at Lingfield suggested the trip should be fine; shes nicely drawn in 5 and hopefully will get a nice tow into the race from Gladys Cooper and O Dee who are both likely to be ridden forward.

Disappointing, looked on edge beforehand; got a reasonable position relative to the winner but always looked like she was doing a bit too much and found disappointingly little.

Seems to have quite a knee action on her but didn't offer much on soft at Salisbury.

Oh well, bottom line is -1 on P/L sheet. There's always tomorrow...

Lightning Steps, 1pt win @ 14-1, 3.30 Newcastle

Lightning Steps didn't shape too badly in his final two starts as a 3YO but had offered nothing this year until springing a shock at 66-1 on his penultimate start over 2m at Catterick from 1lb out of the handicap; there didn't seem any fluke about it and he was well on top at the finish, seeming to finish with plenty left in the tank; his latest start off his revised mark over 2m at Ripon was disappointing but I'm not sure the race was run to suit and he could make only laboured progress from the rear.

He may not be the most straightforward (proved difficult to load on his latest start) and he has to prove the Catterick success wasn't a flash in the pan, but he remains unexposed as a stayer and given the manner of his win a 6lb higher mark shouldn't prove prohibitive; he's running on the AW for the first time but his pedigree offers encouragement for synthetics.

Lastmanlastround 1pt EW @ 20-1, 5.25 Kempton

This horse is of some interest back on Polytrack given the promise of his debut at Lingfield over 1 mile back in February, when he caught the eye with how well he travelled and perhaps was a shade unfortunate not to win given he didn't get the clearest of runs and was sympathetically handled in the straight; for a winter AW maiden the form didn't work out too badly, with the winner Blacklister now rated in the 80s (albeit he may be better on turf but had run well on the AW off marks in the mid-70s) and the third Ilzam going on to win off 77 on the AW, which all makes Lastmanlastround's mark of 78 look a workable one.

Three runs on turf following a 4-month break have culminated in a win in a weakish maiden over 7f at Thirsk, and it could be despite his pedigree (plenty of stamina on the dam's side), he's proves best at 7f / 1m, given he didn't really see his races out on turf over 9f (though still ran OK).

The draw could have been kinder, but at 20-1, he makes some appeal with the promise of that sole Polytrack start not forgotten.

Mister Music, 1pt EW @ 10-1, 5.25 Kempton

Mister Music is the other to make some appeal at a double figure price in this race, on his second start for Tony Carroll; there were signs of life on his debut for his new yard when finishing fourth at Newmarket towards the end of July, and he's an intriguing runner back on the AW, given he's only had two starts on Polytrack and the last one (albeit back in September 2013) resulted in finishing second in a valuable class 2 handicap off a 19lb higher mark than he races off here.

He's a seven-year-old now and it could be he's just not as good as he was, but he did win off a 2lb higher mark on turf last season in a higher grade, and if the change of scenery sparks an upward revival in form, he's appeals as being potentially well handicapped.

Goken, 1pt EW @ 80-1 (4 places), 4.30 Haydock

Withe the rain forecast to arrive at Haydock tomorrow morning, Goken is the suggestion at a big price for the Sprint Cup; his stand out run since arriving from France to join Kevin Ryan, was his third on soft ground in the Group 1 King's Stand at Royal Ascot, and while that may not be the strongest of form for the highest level, it showed his effectiveness with cut in the ground and he was slightly unfortunate to not to have finished closer given he met trouble in running.

I actually thought he shaped quite well in the Nunthorpe under conditions that would have been quick enough, admittedly not put into the heat of the race, but he was going on nicely at the finish until eased when his chance of a place had gone.

It's hardly encouraging that Jamie Spencer jumps ship and Goken has enough to find on the figures with the best of these, but if the forecast rain does arrive in the morning, interesting to see if Goken is able to produce another career-best effort.

Midnight Man, 1 pt EW @ 7-1, 2.55 Thirsk

Caught the eye on his third run for a mark over 7f at Thirsk, not just finishing off in good style to just miss third, but also as a physical specimen with a good way of going; that run came on soft ground so the rain won't be an issue, and his pedigree suggests the extra furlong will be in his favour.

He's going handicapping off 67 and hopefully this mark won't prove beyond this scopey sort.

Sunday Discussion - The Dark Art of Notebookering

Now take for example the 2.00 at Ascot on Friday - I'm watching this for the first time this morning, not knowing who the horses are, and I spot one travelling like a travelly thing but looking a bit green, not getting a clear run before running on well enough; now if this is a debutant I'm going to be sorely tempted to give him an entry into the old notebook.

So I look at the paper to see which one it was and I'm almost deflated to discover it's Syncopation, who's already had four goes and last time out was beaten in a Leicester nursery off a mark of 68!

So should he be given an entry into the notebook?

Possibly so, because what was different about Friday's run was that it was his first start at 6f having raced exclusively at 7f thus far, and a quick look at the Leicester close-up reveals : "with leaders, pulled hard", so perhaps we're dealing with a sprinter here?

It's not an exact science, but on balance I think I'm going to risk giving him an entry into the notebook, particularly as if memory serves, this was the horse Hugh T put when it ran at Goodwood, presumably having seen some potential in its debut run, and that's good enough for me!
Report GEORGE.B September 4, 2016 12:27 PM BST
Actually, if there's one to take from that race maybe it's Redicean, looks a classier type and he wasn't unbacked; not given a hard time after not getting a clear run but kept on nicely for fourth.

I'm no great fan of nurseries George unless something at a price has been a bit easy in mdns and this coincides with some positive trainer stat angle.

Kirk not a trainer I like getting involved with too much, find his 3yo handicappers at prices pretty good value when dropped in hcp a few lbs below their peak after an apparent mediocre run or two.

Nursery runners on turf 10-12 winners (Overall record 12-163) (back to 2003) struck in their first 2 nursery runs, runners moved up in trip 1f+ from lto run 2-63 something to be a bit wary of.

Of course as always each horse on it's merits but he's had 2 nursery winners on turf in last 6 years (2-50) an area of sparse pickings!
