Always makes me smile. Bookies pay six figures for a pitch at Cheltenham and throw money at promotions for one week of the year. Enhanced doubles, enhanced trebles, money back if your horse gets beaten by the favourite, money back if you come second to any horse, etc.
All that, just to lose another £60 million. I think there is a chance - a small chance - that they might just be talking nonsense. |
By:
up £100m after that festival, mighty stuff
![]() |
By:
if they lose then surely the horses were incorrectly priced

Geof Banks said on the Morning Line today the total bookmaking losses over the 4 days would be £100 MILLION at least .Think he said that B E T 3-6-5 had lost over £10 million on their own !
That will take some getting back If the £100 million figure proves to be correct then we can expect a drop in Bookmaker share prices when the Market opens on Monday morning . The Cheltenham Festival used to be a Golden Goose laying golden eggs for the Bookies -but not any more apparently! |
By:
I agree with them. I mean I won about 4 million myself so I can see where they're coming from.
By:
How much are they up from cutting the SP of favourites just before the off throughout the year, do they just spend this and forget about it or save it for a rainy day/festival?
By:
or shortening horses when they are aware of them being a non runner for a greater % deduction?
By:
anyway of seeing these bookies accounts?
By:
Might be the profit form half a FOBT wiped out.
By:
imagine all the accounts that will be getting culled because they back a few winners at cheltenham

Just a stat I pinched from another thread that some might have missed . Plenty of FAVS won but £100 staked on every Fav at SP produces a LOSS of £144 over the 4 days
By:
The loss was actually 1.44 points at sp but how many people bet sp at Cheletenham.
By:
mkj
if you have £4m in your account why do you gamble? |
By:
wouldnt suprise me at all if its the only time there telling the truth ,everyone i know won loads best meeting ever.pipe and jonjo did well all the faves won ,only faves beat were the non mullins ,irish won everything on st paddy day
By:
nina won her race even the cross country was won by art currency placed before
By:
What about the other 51 weeks of the year when they're coining it?? F C U K 'em!!
By:
and people doing the shortie multis could get 6/4 if they win by so many lengths and ruby was trying to get the distances
By:
do they coin it in on racing though ,if they need fobts to subsidize offering odds on racing fcuk it it let them do it
By:
i expect they did every bit of 60million, but it will be to genuine punters who crack away so I wouldntg shed many tears!

I'm sure the Press release was drafted a couple of weeks ago to justify them not signing up to the ABP as they couldn't afford it. BAstards.
