The latest forum competition, this time it’s for the CHELTENHAM FESTIVAL and it is very much based on last year’s

It’s a combination of skill and guesswork in whatever ratio you want!
Looking at the entries and studying is probably an advantage – Alternatively you could just have 12 guesses.

There is a prize, which Betfair have kindly donated – a total of £400 in Sportsbook bets.
This will be broken down into 4 prizes, £200, £100, £60, and £40, for the top 4 competition finishers.

PLEASE ENTER ON THIS THREAD.

Due to time constraints and unlike in other sports for which I have run competitions, the final entries and runners/riders are not finalised, however there should be enough information to go on to enable entries which don’t wait until the last minute.
The last minute is Monday night (14th March) at midnight – No entries will be accepted after this time.

This is how it works:
There are 12 sections You have to put 1 answer to each section as specified.
The scores for each selection are listed below.
Just put the letters A to L with your choice for each - preferably going downwards, followed by your tie-break answer.

In the event of ties, a tiebreak will come into effect so there should be an absolute winner (and 2nd, 3rd and 4th). If there is still a tie prizes will be shared equally.

The Sections: and some details/clues/history
If you want to compare previous results try this link
www.cheltenham-festival.co.uk/cheltenham-festival-results.php

A. How many horses whose names begin with the letter T (includes ‘The’) will make the frame, ie finish in the 1st 3 or 4 (depending on the race) on DAY ONE?
Choose a number from 0 to 15 (max possible, imo).
There are horses entered which begin with a ‘T’ (some of them have a fair chance too!) for every race on day one.
3 points for being right. 1 point if wrong by one.

B. What will be the aggregate (Total) SP’s of all the DAY TWO winners
(eg; 10/1 winner = 10, 5/2 winner = 2.5, Evens winner = 1, etc…. Then add all 7 day two winners)
A, 38 or less. B, over 38 – 48, C, over 48 – 58, D, over 58 – 68, E over 68.
Choose A, B, C, D or E.
There are some big priced favourites and loads of runners, the likelihood is that even if all 7 favourites won, the aggregate would probably still be over 25.
2 points for being correct

C. Which horse will finish 2nd in Thursday’s World Hurdle
You’ll need to look at the entries or betting list to pick a horse for this
3 points for being right, 1 point if you’ve picked a non-runner

D. Which of these 5 horses will achieve the best finish in Friday’s Gold Cup?
Choose from: Road to Riches, Valseur Lido, Carlingford Lough, Many Clouds, Holywell
3 points for being right, ½ a point if a Non-Runner

E. How many FAVOURITES (including Jt and Co favs) will win at the festival?.
A number between 0 and 27 for this section
3 points if correct, 1.5 points if 1 out.
In 2015 there were 7, in 2014 there were 6, in 2013 there were 9.

F. Will ANY horse finish in the frame in more than 1 race at the festival this year
Please put either Yes or No
1 point if saying NO and being correct, 5 points if saying YES and being correct

G. How many winners will be collectively ridden by: Nico de Boinville, Sam Twiston-Davies, Paul Townend and Richard Johnson?
Choose a number from: 0 (not too likely) to 25 (more than extremely unlikely)
3 points if correct, 1 point if wrong by 1.

H. How many winners will be collectively trained by: Nicky Henderson, Paul Nicholls,  Gordon Elliot and Alan King
like the previous section, any number from 0 upwards
3 points for being right , 1 point if wrong by 1.

I. Which of these races:
Novices Handicap chase (Tues), Coral Cup (Weds),  Pertemps Final Hurdle(Thurs) and  Conditional Jockeys Hurdle (Fri), will provide the Shortest priced winner?
Choose from: choose from Novice, Coral, Pertemps, Conditional
2 points go to the correct prediction.

J. What will be the biggest price of a winner at Cheltenham?
A – 10/1 to 20/1, B- 22/1 to 30/1, C - 33/1 to 40/1, D – 50/1 to 66/1, E – More than 66/1
choose A, B, C, D or E
2 points for a correct prediction.

K. Will any race be won by a female jockey
So, Simply say Yes or No
2 points if right.

L. Scoring 3 for a win, 2 for 2nd, 1 for finishing 3rd; how many will these horses score in total: Douvan (Arkle Trophy – Tues), Vroum Vroum Mag (Mares Hurdle - Tues), Yanworth (Neptune nov Hurdle – Weds) Un De Sceaux (Champion Chase - Weds), Thistlecrack (World Hurdle - Thurs), Limini (Mares novices Hurdle – Thurs), On The Fringe (Foxhunters  – Fri).
Choose a number between 0 and 21
4 points for being right, 2 points if wrong by 1, 1 point if wrong by 2.
Any non-runners will score 1.5 points and points will be ‘nearest to’.

[b]TIEBREAK :

What will be the aggregate winning distance (total distance between each winner and horse which finishes 2nd) over the 27 races? The maximum distance in any 1 race is 30 lengths

Other stuff
This competition has been posted on the Horse racing, Cheltenham Festival and Chit Chat forums.
E&OE – Any ties in any sections, points shared; (eg, if the score is 2 points for 3rd, 1 point for 4th, and there's a tie for 3rd, both will score 1.5)
If I’ve made any glaring errors, please let me know, and if they can be rectified or sorted, they will be.
Common sense should prevail.
The organiser's (that's me) decision is final. I'll try to update scores and standings at the end of each Section’s completion.

Entries accepted until 12.00PM (midnight GMT), Monday 14th March.

No more will be accepted after this time.

Good Luck everybody and enjoy the Racing.

Thanks study, looks fun.  Pedant question - for the purposes of question K, does 'female jockey' include 'lady rider' (ie do amateurs - who formally aren't jockeys - count?).

studyform, gl and hope you get a bumper entry for your efforts, one small point, your tie break question cites 27 races, there are 7 each day this year though, which means a total of 28, might be wise to revise just in case it becomes an issue

Valid point, cork.
I don't think it should matter much, it's only for the tiebreak, but nearest answer will still count.

Well spotted though.

I know what you mean Dan.
It puzzles me that people who don't like or want to take part feel the need to tell everyone instead of simply not playing. Maybe it gives a tiny bit of an important feeling.

I am a bit surprised at GRANTCKING though.... He won the last competition I ran!

I think it's a good competition other than:

There is a prize, which Betfair have kindly donated – a total of £400 in Sportsbook bets.
This will be broken down into 4 prizes, £200, £100, £60, and £40, for the top 4 competition finishers.

200 x £1 bets in total (if you're lucky enough to win)

As does STUDY WinkWink

Surprised at salmons mini outburst though whether it suits his M.0, or not as he's normally supportive of these things.

It's only a bit of fun at end of the day so who cares how "out there" the comp is ffs

i can get more on their specials - max bet of £2.50 than i can on most sporting events - what gets me is whats the point of it all cos they cud just as easily put every bet into exchange market and still make a profit ConfusedConfusedConfused

I was perhaps a bit harsh last night.
It's certainly not my cup of tea but each to their own. And I certainly wasn't having a pop at Studyform. Just think it shows the way the wind is blowing that the prizes are bets on the Sportsbook. smirnoff is right that I have taken part in a number of Betfair sponsored comps on here but the prizes there were ( rather lesser amounts ) added to your exchange account.

You could be right Salmon the people who win don't enter competitions as they
have no need.If 95% on here are losers they get back 95% of the prize money
given..But hey it's a bit of fun!..
