One of the most underrated horses of all time, Pearlyman, won the Grand Annual as a novice and then 2 Champion Chases. Might well have been 4 if he hadn't been injured.

Persian War won 3 Champion Hurdles and a Triumph Hurdle. Arkle won 3 Gold Cups and the 3 mile Novice Chase. L'Escargot won the Supreme Novices (div) and 2 Gold Cups. Bula won the Supreme Novices and 2 Champion Hurdles, and was a decent 3rd in a Gold Cup. Saffron Tartan won a Supreme Novice (div), a Gold Cup, and was 3rd in a Champion Hurdle. |

Quiz question chaps - Which horse with a link to a horse mentioned on this thread, won a festival novice hurdle, and returned six years later to fail as a short priced favourite, in a festival novice chase ?
|
|
By:
Quita Que was one of Tom Dreaper's less well known horses (at least, he's generally forgotten now), but in a run of 4 years, he was 2nd in 2 Champion Hurdles (the first time by 3/4 length), then won a Cathcart by a distance, then won the first ever Champion Chase (at 4/9), then would have been a hot fav to win it again the following year, but got injured. His stablemate Fortria took over, and became the new 2 mile chase king.
Saffron Tartan, incidentally, was the overnight favourite for the Cheltenham Gold Cup in 1959, but was withdrawn as he coughed. He then placed in the 1960 Champion Hurdle (going off 3/1 2nd fav), and then won the 1961 Gold Cup. He was a big horse, who had dodgy wind, who was hobdayed in the autumn of 1959. He also won the 1960 KG chase. |

No Kavvie. Ged was correct with the great Flyingbolt - the races that are now the Supreme Novices, Arkle and Champion Chase. He famously came 3rd, to Salmon Spray, in the Champion Hurdle the day after winning the Champion Chase.

Arctic Gold won 3 diferent races in the 50's, Flying Bolt & Bobs Worth as mentioned, these 3 are the only horses to have won 3 diferent races at the festival.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Alberts Run, RSA & Ryan Air x2. Never got the credit he deserved that one... |

Pearlyman was great horse. I remember Stormyfairweather winning 2 cathcarts in a row.

festival races only it says?

The horse bankit is referring to is Sabin Du Loir, and it looks like the only two horses who have won 3 different festival races are Flyingbolt and Bobs Worth.

Correct jimeen - ridden to victory in the Sun Alliance Hurdle by Barney Curley's favourite jockey - Good old Brad.
|
|
By:
I think it beat Dawn Run as far as i can remember, a fair scalp to take for a four year old.
|
|
By:
That's right jimeen - could have been a real superstar but for injury.
|
|
By:
I have to say I wrote some cr&p about Quita Que above. He was trained by Dan Moore, not Tom Dreaper. I think that's twice I've got that wrong. The horse went on to win another Cathcart as a 12yo, so he had a fair old Cheltenham record altogether.
