these swapped jockeys aboard cradle mountain today ,but id anything had a negative affect in my view
he slow the horse up at the 2nd last and last , loosing all momentum , if he does this at chelt instead of pushing the horse into the hurdle , he will get beat every time ! must have easily lost over a length at the last , never had a bet but . very poor ride imo !

yes fine just been looking at races pre chelt  think confidence is a big thing before chelt
fortune favors the brave , think he will have my squiggle , seams to slow horses when presenting to hurdle , do that at chelt its good night vienna one of my fav jockey was steve smith eccles

Backed this today ,fully agree with your synopsis ,very poor indeed, makes me think maybe they changed plans at the last minute..
Report joevalue147 January 27, 2016 7:37 PM GMT
Agree he was very poor on that lad today up the home straight.  Bar More Of That what other good rides will he have at Cheltenham?
Report bigmart January 27, 2016 7:41 PM GMT
work rider he almost slowed up at the 2nd last ,and almost came to a stand still at the last , lost all impetus , when you look at all the prolific winning hurdlers , they all attack their hurdles ,
rem beat the retreat humped fast and low barely slowed up , think the horse is not a natural , but when a rider slow's up like that into a flight the horses sometimes sense something is wrong and they start to waver , and wander , its as if he bottled it after the horse made a few errors during the race , deffo lost a couple of len and cost it the race workrider very unlucky  if i may say so
hows your luck been in general work rider Confused
Report bigmart January 27, 2016 7:45 PM GMT
he gets a few rides from henderson joevalue147   a punter had said that's the 3rd time in a week he has slowed horses right up , approaching the penultimate flight , wander if its a confidence thing make sure they get over rather than an go for it  Scared
Report joevalue147 January 27, 2016 8:09 PM GMT
He'll be getting feck all real top rides off Henderson because Jacob has the Munir job and Nico has his foot firmly in the door now. He will be riding Pendra in one of the handicaps for JP. Can't think of having any rides with a favorites chance.

Bigmart , everything I back is finishing 2nd , in fact its unreal the amount I've had , what was most interesting was his decision to stay right behind horses most of the way round , never really allowed his horse see a hurdle .
Report bigmart January 27, 2016 8:39 PM GMT
he does this a lot work rider , its a very poor tactic especially on heavy ground , seen him cruising in behind horses them tries to find instant acceleration , it never works with these national hunt types , it knows the crap out of them dif on a flat horse with 9 stone , but coming up a doddle to them speed with 11 stone plus takes the guts out a horse , the beast are best encouraged  through out a race , and yes i agree given site of the hurdles , his riding is one dimensional , he gets away with it just on better ground but not in these conditions , when they go from cruise mode to all out they always flounder and bottom , i have this theory workrider  if u see 2 horses with similar form ie 4 yr old v 5 year old 5 yr old v 6 year olds  9 times out of 10 the older horses win in testing ground , prop because they have strengthened up more !
Report TheCollector January 27, 2016 8:43 PM GMT
I used to be mega keen Geraghty fan but not so anymore but is he getting decent rides nowadays?
Report penzance January 27, 2016 8:57 PM GMT

Report bigmart January 27, 2016 9:01 PM GMT
the collector been betting for a while now , am sure some of these jockeys , start to think stuff this am not payed enough to present horses at pace , seen it many times with other jockeys ,
but a few rides like this can actually ruin a horse , as every time they approach hurdles they sense something  through the rider , if the jockey does not show confidence it will reflect often on the horses form , as they worry and start to seat up as they reach the track , horses never forget !

Wow I'm shocked by posts on this thread from some very experienced punters! If you think Geraghty were the reason the horse lost then you either lost money on the race or you only watched it once( which should of been enough anyway)

The reason the horse didn't win was because it couldn't jump and yes I backed it but geraghty did well to only lose by half a length.

Five out- again jumped poorly.
Four out- poor jump lost 3 lengths
Three out- Jockey used alot of horse energy to get to within 1 length but again jumped badly losing ground again.
Two out- Again jockey had to use horse energy to make the lengths back up to get within striking distance.
Final hurdle- again horse jumped poorly like most of the hurdles he jumped lost lengths again.

Lost by half length after jockey tried to get him to win race.

Oh yeah forgot to mention that it got got last time by winner by half length off levels, this time was giving it 5lbs.
Report workrider January 27, 2016 9:29 PM GMT
Have a look at it again Lady, tell me how many times Barry gives it a view of the hurdle .
Report ladycarla January 27, 2016 9:34 PM GMT
Got a view at the other hurdles, don't mind jockey using his head and trying something different (might of worked) unlike dickie yesterday.

Didn't see this race but Geraghty is one jockey who I'd never accuse of bottling it or being a bridle jockey

Report ladycarla January 27, 2016 9:42 PM GMT
We watching same race? Barry was pushing from 5 out never was it going well and on top jumped liked a pig!! Like I said great ride to get second imo.

Cradle Mountain was never gonna win that race but equally, Barry is not the same jockey as he was last season.
Report workrider January 27, 2016 9:47 PM GMT
Before turning in the horse came back on the bridle,Barry let him stroll along instead of kicking on after he'd got up a head of steam ...

In your opinion, if geraghty is worse than last season would he had won on cradle mountain today as it only lost by half length.

some interesting views i will say this if he had not slowed the horse into the last 2 flights it wd have won , and yes a strong jockey wd have got up , no it ain't a natural jumper , and wd prefer better ground , but that last flight cost it for sure imo

sorry for the confusion when i said bridle jockey i ment his riding   in general lady
he was trying his hardest after the last , but if you look at the race again i am convinced him slowing the horse to pop the last cost it 100%
Report ladycarla January 27, 2016 10:52 PM GMT
All opinions but mine is if you ask a horse that can't jump for a big one at any flight you will end up on the floor! Don't know geraghty stats for being on the floor but I don't see him there very often.

i take your point but ruby or mccoy wd have went for it that;s what makes them champions
think the horse is screaming 2.4 miles and better ground ,  when u look at its last run
it finished like a train , maybe blinkers wd help the horse ! but being careful does not win races with all due respect they are well payed for the job they do and yes its a dangerous game ,but lets be honest these are hurdles lady , and horse was not out on its feet , but agree about its jumping needs brushed up ,

Who would I have my horse geraghty walsh or AP? Tough one, geraghty made me the most money out the three, defo AP lost me the most money out the three and walsh has done me out the most accs in my life Cry.

AP was champion so many times for how many rides he had, people always remember those never give up rides but out of 20,000 rides you will get a few hundred of them.
Walsh, love him apart from the accs he costs me, going back to asking a horse for a big one at the last is why he has done me out the accs especially well clear!

Going back to the horse in question he was giving weight in very bad ground, be interesting to watch its next race.

Ruby usually allows the horse pop it himself. The only time you'll usually see him ask for one is in a big race. Again I have to disagree.

its strange how this geraghty topic has suddenly come up again , last year i described him as ab adequate but no better  rider and got ripped tomtits, personally i think he's riding exactly how he's ridden for ages, pretty average, hell win on something that most would win on but rarely will you think he's the reason a horse has won.its  even more  now that we realise how totally different class mccoy was, day after day he'd ride a winner and you'd this nk to yourself"how the feck has he got that home"

ladycarla

There's no point entering into a discussion with bigmouth. He knows everything about everything to do with horseracing.
Whether it's the horses themselves ( what they're thinking etc), jockeys( what they're thinking, etc) or trainers( what they're thinking etc).
It's uncanny how he knows exactly what's going on in the minds of connections ( forget to mention owners, he knows what they're thinking etc ).
Because of this skill, he's accumulated huge sums of money from betting. So much so, that he can't remember the last time he opened a pay packet ( and in case you're confused, he doesn't have to work, but he does because he loves what he does) And if that were not proof enough,he's got a £2 million pension pot.

So there you have it. Bigmouth the consummate successful horse race gambler.

But just in case you were curious. Don't make the mistake of asking him for evidence over, let's say, a 12 month period, of his stake, return and profit ( ROI etc). He gets very upset and defensive, which turns to abuse, and he uses lots of CAPITAL LETTERS. An unfortunate outcome of this is his spelling. It tends to go awry. But it's alright really because he has a ' condition'  which has the positive effect of making him exempt from any rebuke/ banning by Betfair.

Amazing all round really, given that the vast majority on this  Forum, know him for the charlatan he is.

Year before last BG picked up a few of AP's rejected rides at Chelts and promptly beat them all...

Better jockey and if hes on the morning line a better judge of horse flesh as well

what's happening is BG is no longer getting a choice of rides but is retained jockey so rides them whether he wants to or not - AP had some stinkers as well as a result
