From what I can gather (and local rumour) his 3rd marriage has hit the pan so that could explain a) drop in form i.e. could have taken eye off the game and b) his recent holiday?

He always goes on hols mid season. He's not the only one. Hobbs, Venetia, Twister, they're all at it.
But yes, Georgie has fooked orf. |

Haven't read all the thread but if he's to get a good proper jockey he will have to cast his eyes across the Irish Sea imo.

The French are selling the good APQ's to MUllins. He's getting the second raters.

conetable is a very good horse but given a tactical holocaust today bridle jocks like him don't seam to get the fact if the ground is heavy it suits horses getting cajuled along not sitting tucking horses in behind a slow pace ffs , he needs better jockeys than this , very very poor , std almost got the new one beat doing same , both horses stay further but they sit in behind moderate gallop , if it was not for the new ones class it wd have been turned over , nap
as piggot used to say not always the best horse that wins a race , you must ride a horse to its strengths so it want suit your mail rivals , he done the complete opposite gifted the race your not going to be champion trainer with these 2 in the saddle ![]() |

Interesting little bit on Ch4 as the cameras picked out some of the trainers and jockeys coming into Ascot...Nick Luck pointing out some of the Nichol's entourage and "Tom Malone who buys most of the stables horses nowadays"... on other threads bemoaning/celebrating the demise of Donald McCain some in-the-know posters on there suggest that you would not send Tom Malone to the corner shop to buy a pint of milk..coincidence?

He appears to have no good horses left but he's still miles ahead in the championship. How does that work ?

Simply hasn't got the Ammo at the moment in my opinion.

"Richard Johnson is miles off the Irish jockeys yet is miles ahead in the UK jockeys championship."
Plenty of Oirish jockeys riding in GB.....I suppose only the second and third raters come over here, though? FFS ![]() |

By:
I obviously meant the best ones who still ride over here and who Nicholls thinks are inferior to STD. Even a young lad like Jack Kennedy is better than any British jockey

bad trainers (or substitute this as bad jockeys) can make good horses seem ordinary but good trainers (jockeys) cannot make bad horses go faster

how many times did u see AP mccoy virtually carried horses over the line , no one wants horses battered ,
its the out of pitch , or straight legged arrogant approach that , gets up my wick , a lot of these N hunt types gallop and gallop ,and dont find an instant turn off foot , but his jockeys have this habitual riding style that is even less affective on heavy going , just look at the racing today most horse that won were up with the pace several struggling to make in roads , notice how mullins always gets the top riders to get on with it , fav for the champion hurdle stays further , unlike nichols riders he uses horses stamina to make it an advantage , he set a good gallop and ran the sting out his main rival ! as well as horses being very fit , he is a tactical master ,seen this many times with mullins he uses horses assets to make it much harder, for potential dangers to make an impact ! |

You can always rely on mincer11 for a good laugh in any thread and I've never heard so much rubbish in my life. Seems such a sad and bitter little man and reminds me so much of that paulie numbnuts.
Did Ruby carry Nicholls on Denman when he won the Gold Cup? Nicholls was winning races like the Cheltenham Gold Cup, King George, the Arkle, the Queen Mother, the Charlie Hall, the Scottish Champion Hurdle, the Scottish National, the Tingle Creek, the Victor Chandler and other top races before he even teamed up with Ruby, as well as winning numerous other top class races using numerous other jockeys whenever Ruby was often out injured. |
|
By:
Yes, I'd be interested in hearing the full story too, doorman.
I don't suppose we'll ever get to know it. Although I cannot take to the guy, the facts show that PD is still top of the NH trainers in the UK ( by the prize-money parameters). Nobody can stay at the top for ever. Btw, I always thought Denman was a much better animal than Kauto. I'd like the full story on that one too, but 'tis unlikely, I guess. |
|
By:
PN was the top trainer when he had the top horses and ruby was happy to ride for him when he knew there would be lots of big race winners.
Once ruby realised the PN horses were going into decline and there were very few champions coming through, he jumped ship to mullins who was gathering lots of potential champions from france. Given the right horses, most trainers and most jockeys (UK and irish) could win good races with them. |

12:40 Ascot - Connetable
Had some quite smart juvenile form in France before a setback in the autumn when he threw a splint much like Dodging Bullets. So Connetable was on the easy list for six weeks and while he has done enough since then he is not match fit yet. I've rushed him a little bit to get a race into him at Ascot ahead of some bigger targets in the spring so I expect him to improve for the run After reading that and seeing the drift on the horse and the money for Kings horse you couldn't back Connetable with any confidence. |
|
By:
prize money won in Britain 20.15 ... 20.16 £1,164,360 most trainers can only dream of that
hardly a decline |
|
By:
skelton interview, cant get a picture how horses run bad, there blood tested and scoped, jockeys report say didnt finish when asked to improve.,he states it could be the weather sloppy and wet.

|
By:
outpost - you forget ruby was no 1 at wpm way before he started riding for pn..so he didn't jump ships
|
|
By:
Did Ruby really fall or was he pushed? (Or more accurately pulled)
Not sure this had anything to do with horses myself....but Roobs certainly landed on his feet, the lucky lad. |
|
By:
Ruby could always ride for whoever he liked, nicholls was lucky to have him and you can see now exactly how lucky .
|
|
By:
holy that race in france has worked out really well with connetable
|
|
By:
Another disappointing day for Mr Saturday. I think it is a real shame, would love the old guard (nicholls, hendo, jonjo, etc) to still be around to compete against the young guns (fry, skelton. Pauling).
Struggling to see the ammunition for the festival. Although I think he has a couple of very well handicapped horses for some hcap hurdles. |
|
By:
So you think fry, skelton & pauling will have more winners than PN at the festival ?
|
|
By:
No idea IS. Just making the statement that some on here seem pleased about his decline. There will always be new blood coming through and imo, would be very exciting if we could see both the new and old guard competing week in week out at the top of their game, both with good horse.
|
|
By:
Mr Tuesday is the right name for him.
Enda Bolger will have more winners than the fat turd at Cheltenham, and isnt it great. |
|
By:
I get really confused when you mention the old guard.
I backed Old Guard for the triumph, fred winter last season. Then followed it this season, happy days. |
|
By:
Come on mincer, you are probably right about the Cheltenham winners. But you are a sensible guy and having a Nicholls with a stable of decent horses has to be good for racing. The English/Irish balance has tipped to far and it is in everyone's interest for that balance to be redressed
