At sandown last week
By:
A fair enough complaint.
Doesn't exactly encourage punters to "come racing" |
By:
Perhaps if there was a vibrant betting ring, with bookmakers showing a variety of prices that didn't all change at the same time, and offering standard each way terms he wouldn't have needed wi-fi.
By:
bookmakers bet to standard each way terms every race at sandown on saturday yet another who never leaves the bedroom and posts crap.
By:
4G signal available surely so wouldn't matter....
By:
To be fair to noidea foxy, how many would have bet to traditional terms in the 3.00 if there had'nt been a non runner?
By:
mmm
some would so the chance would have been available to bet 1234 1/4. the option should not be there to have gone 1/5th. |
By:
I've never gone to the races and not bet with the on-course bookies, but I totally understand why people would rather bet online while they're there. Some horses are twice the price on here.
By:
The OP is well out of order. and noidea is quite correct.
Since betfair..the on course books just set up a cartel and back on course bets with them back on betfair at a bigger price...what a joke. wi fi should be fully available in 2016 for all not just on course bookies ripping off the paying public, If wi fi is denied to the fee paying public then so should it to the satchel holders.... And as for The Tote...absolute joke dividends with win take out went up 3%. |
By:
Probably did him a favour, as had he placed a bet with an online firm using Sandown's wifi, that's reason enough for some firms to link his account with that of anyone else who has done likewise and confiscate his winnings.

Barry,I am surprised by your negative views,as have always seen you as a forward thinker.Moves like this will stop punters from going,it is short-sighted,unecessary,and wrong.
Better suggestion for you,be an inovator, and stretch the board prices by tics, and beat your staid, set in their ways, neighbours. When a horse is 3/1,go 3.1.When 4/1,go 4.1,when 9/2 go 4.6 etc.No need to go 6/1 when all around are 11/2,just go 5.6,5.7 Be the first to get into the modern world. |
By:
I remember a bookie from somewhere near London who took on all on sundry with horses at say 7/4, and at the same time had all the money away with other bookies. In effect there was little or no liability when the tapes went up, and if the horse lost he stuck his chest out giving it large with the usual cockney slang, and if it won , he had a half mile que and every guy in the line was saying what a great bookie he was.
Strange behvaiour, you really would want an ego the size of a city suburb to do such a thing. |
By:
Mincer the problem is the old school guys who actually took a bet all had an overly large ego hence had the balls to lay a proper bet and I believe that includes Barry but the sad thing is theyr spouses that take over cant live up to theyr daddies courage and are only a 1/5 of the man with no clue of what to do crap themselves over a score bet don't think wifi is the solution it's down to proper regulation of theyr practises which in all honesty thievery and imo unlawful not only of course but in all the industry at the moment .all the arguing and bickering on the forums yet nothing is being done about it all yet a few say theyr is I see no evidence and sad as it might sound it's up to the government to step up to the plate and get the sport properly regulated

Banning WIFI in the betting ring, no wonder Star Sports are selling up
![]() |
By:
foxy. I wasn't talking about Sandown in particular but betting rings in general. As it happens I go racing a lot. At this time of year I mainly go pointing, where the art of bookmaking still exists.
By:
noidea point to point art of bookmaking? Do not make me laugh
as I have a cracked lip. |

250% bettimg books at PTP meets

This has all been done before - Come racing! Lingfield midweek 7-10 books only 1-2 betting EW and 1-2 points below the actual price - its a total carve up and anyone making money long term backing under those terms is a *uc*ing magician imo
By:
You have to know who are the bookmakers and who are the sheep. With no Betfair or early morning markets to guide them plenty make mistakes. The big overound on first shows offers some protection, but no protection if you put up 6/1 about something that should be 9/4.
By:
Good morning, miprix. I trust you are well and doing your thing on the purple.
By:
No protection about putting up 6/1 about something that should be 9/4, you must be joking.
They will either lay 6/1 to a tenner, or else simply rub the board and give a deaf ear. |
By:
the wifi on course is awful in this day and age..bangor is a joke impossible to get a signale most of the time unless you stand by the press room!..i was @ripon in the summer same thing..i personally bet with on course bookies when I go racing, some of my friends are on course bookies,..but you carnt stop people doing what they want..and the wifi coverage on course should be automatic...but I understand mr dennis..

Good morning Sparrow I am just about level after
starting betting last July after a long break. Yesterday I thought I had laid in running £2@ 6.2 when I looked on the screen I noticed I had laid £32 at that price at that time the horse was 2nd and apparently going well luckily in the end it was well beaten thank goodness. Have you been getting a morsel on here? I hope you have. |
By:
I agree with nightfly, ban it for the punters but also the books and then you might have some sort of betting ring. I go racing and hardly ever bet with the books because they are all generally the same price and have it back 'on the machine'.
By:
Yes it's going ok miprix. But this is the best time of the year for me on the AW and it's the rest of the year I worry about.
By:
The way all events organisers are allowed to control what paying customers can do, eat and drink is shameful imo. I think younger people accept it as normal but it rankles here and I attend less and less.
By:
noidea
fair enough sorry for my rudeness. |
By:
no worries foxy.
By:
Racecourses happy to provide internet access for track players to bet in running or before the off so double standards being applied
By:
indeed doubled
noidea a great time of year to go racing thats if it ever stops raining. |
By:
Nmt last July, about 30 books say,
lucky if you got 1pt difference across the board, alot changed prices at exactly the same time aswell. |
By:
penzance..you are bang on the money..
Exactly right..they have become just like the energy companies...a fixed market economy to fleece the punters. Sad Mad Bad |
By:
Went racing at Towcester today for first time for a few years 5 books near the Parade ring 3 were Barry Jonston 1 Lovall and one William hill
Stood ther for 10 mins and they were the Same price the Favourite in the 2nd not one book went any higher, went to the 3 books near the Grandstand and another Barry Jonson stand and they were the same,If I go racing I want to bet in Cash and try and get the best price but next time I go will bet online,Good crowd today despite weather Free entry and you get to hear Matt Chapman and Barry Johnson love in |
By:
Take your off-course price, reduce by 5% and stick it on your board. In event of a bad day reduce by a further 5%.
Throw in 5p Rule 4 deductions, not offering EW on "bad percentage races" with a short fav and of course definitely not offering any sort of Best Odds promise that is standard off course then line up to give them your money. Or to quote a well known advert "Get yer mobile out" |

ITS NOT A NO WIFI RING YOU WANT TO BE WORRIED ABOUT,ITS A NO BOOKMAKER RING THAT WILL DRIVE PUNTERS FROM THE RACECOURSES,WITH THE ADVENT OF RACECOURSES PROMOTING THEIR OWN IN HOUSE BETTING OPERATIONS(EVERYONE SO FAR THAT HAS STARTED CANT COMPETE WITH ONCORSE BOOKMAKERS AND NONE EVER WILL), THE BEST PICKS AT MOST RACECOURSES ARE DOMINATED BY COMMISSION AGENTS MOST OF WHOM THE MERE THOUGHT OF STANDING A HORSE WOULD SEND THEM RUNNING TO THE NEAREST TOILET.EVERY TRACK I ATTEND THE BOOKMAKERS(NOT THE COMMISSION AGENTS)CONSISTENTLY BEAT THE EXCHANGES BOTH IN PRICE AND LIQUIDITY,THE ONLINE BLUFFERS CANT COMPETE WITH US EITHER,SO COME RACING WHILE THE VALUE IS STILL THERE!
By:
I agree with Barry, but just to make it fair remove all internet access from the racecourse, including the betting ring. May be lucky to have 2 books standing
By:
2 books more than enough for me. While the ring is as it is why would any clued up punter use it.
By:
I was at Towcester today; Rosa Fleet was 11/2 (biggest 6/1 briefly) in the ring whilst drifting on here from 6.00 to 9.00.
Not the only example either... |
