cappella sansevero 3k (4.5 e)
aljamaaheer 2.8k (4 e)
french navy 2.8 (4 e)
fullbright 2.8 (4 e)

my picks of value are breed in ireland sell in england

ok on dearer stallions (over 10k) muhaarar and brazen beau looks best if you got a mare .the rest are a robbery.

on other stallions (under 10k ) guitifan is nearly value in ireland ,but ivawood and g force are a robbery for what they are and will become.all cheaper uk stallions are very expensive if you have to pay full price.

the cheapest stallions like cable bay, outstrip, anjaal (all at a lower price than advertised  ) mustajeeb, cappella sansevero, aljamaaheer etc might be best bet for commerical breeders.

the darley club horses are scary biscuits.

over all my star pick is - brazen beau -hes commercial, good home, good race record -speedy.

what do you all think and wheres your money going?

If I was in the game it would be Gutaifan for me with Ivawood making me think twice.

One thing is for sure, last seasons newcomers were a lot better value and more appealing. I'm giving them plenty of thought still this year.
To assess value there is so much to consider with conformation and venue being so important.

I'll come clean and say that I am using Brazen Beau if he looks like he should when he returns in Jan.

Of the above I would say G. H., Gleneagles, Muhaarar ++, Free Eagle, Giutaifan, Ivawood, Mustajeeb and Aljamahar are of most appeal but inspection (I have seen none of them) will change that. Some of the others I have seen and have moved on accordingly!

I too find most of those in my price bracket singularly unappealing. I did like Fountain of Youth and if he could get stock that look like him he'd be tempting. Not likely to be a stupid book size at that stud either which several of the rest will be. Value in this list - well we'll know that next spring if infertile and in two year's time in the sale ring! There are some hard judgment calls to be made and I think I'm inclined to mostly head for proven sires this year.

I don't think any of the cheaper ones are value (as I have said before). I know I am in a minority but I think Outstrip is the best deal to be had. I like Ivawood but he is in Ireland so it is irrelevant to me whether he is value or not. I think anyone using the cheaper ones with a mare that's not good enough to go to a better one will find it tough to make a profit. There will be a lot of foals and yearlings available form proven stallions next year and the year after like Roderic O'conner, Fast Company, Dandy Man etc that will make much more appeal than these cheap newcomers. I don't think the first season tag will work for most of these.

I think this year if you are at the cheap end like me some second and third season gambles may actually be a better bet. Fast Company is looking cheap against some of these.

Some very ordinary horses on that list , it makes you wonder how will they fill their books.

Genuine if apparently stupid question here to you breeders...

Why would you sent a mare to Golden Horn at £60K (potentially exciting but unproven sire)when you can send a horse to his dad (proven G1 sire)for E20K?

Is it because he's the new kid on the block and you are taking his foals/yearlings are going to look great and fly out of the ring?
Or maybe you have a mare to cover and want to sell in foal?
Is there a specific cross/outcross reason from a breeding angle?
A combination of all of the above?

Now I can see the attraction in a covering by Gleneagles as his dad is probably not the easiest to 'get into' and he's considerably cheaper (I don't rate the animal that highly personally, but can see the reason you may want to use him.

Is GH more likely to be a stallion that owner/breeders use or will he be mainly used by breeders who are looking to sell mares in foal/foals/yearlings?

TIA

BBC, Golden Horn will be an owner breeder type horse and a commercial one at the outset.

Cape Cross has been around for a hundred years and all his faults are clearly laid out in front of us so I suppose it is a purely subjective view as to where you rate them versus where you place his virtues. However Golden Horn is shiny and new and his faults in the breeding shed not yet established.

Fashion and frenzy will fill a horse at a hefty price and who doesn't want to be on trend?

If an owner/breeder wants a proven option, shouldn't they always?, and they have a mare that is well suited to either father or son then they should of course use Cape Cross, but then they might get the pinny upright slow maturing giant mightn't they. . . . .

Decisions decisions!

Was speaking with Morristown and was told they're showing Gutaifan "10 times a day".

PM thanks for the reply. I guess with a new stallion you are hoping he's going to be more Galileo than Dancing Brave in the breeding shed.....ie both outstanding racehorses but with very different results as stallions.

To me its a bit of a risk at the price (GH over CC) but as its not my money and I don't have to make the decision, but thanks for bringing the 'slow maturing type' argument into it, as it wasn't one of the options I'd considered-I guess if I was an owner/breeder it wouldn't be so bad, but if I was selling on.....more problematic.

Cheers

I am still looking for another cover and am now on second seasoners. I was going to use Kuroshio but he's not shuttles this year. I used Heeraat last year and I must say if he was first season this year he would be one of the likelier ones. He is certainly one of the better looking of the cheaper options, could he be any value at around £3k?
