townends probably paid a fat wage to work at willies his input is invaluable to the yard, much in the same way as seamie is to coolemore, happy to pick up a ride on a stable star now and again, why would he want to travel up and down the uk with moody pumpkins ?

And that's because Sean Bowen has lost his claim, whereas Hary Cobden can still offer Paul Nicholls the bonus of weight off the horse's back......It's deja vu all over again.

Not only has Bowen lost his claim now too but he did it far too quickly and how old is he anyway, 17 or 18? I'm surprised those who have guided his career have allowed that to happen really and if ST-D goes to the main meeting and Nicholls either had a 2nd string or runners at the alternative meeting, is he likely to put Bowen up over someone like Geraghty, Fehily or Walsh or him over Cobden if he (Bowen) can't taken any weight off the horse?

The main way I can see Bowen getting rides for Nicholls is if they are at the bottom of the handicap and a more experienced jockey can't do the weight, yet how often does Nicholls have runners in the big handicaps at the bottom end of the weights?

Apologies for my comment about Al Ferof. I hadn't realised he had moved until the morning of the race and did wonder why Nicholls had given the ride to Harry Skelton!

geordie says the top 4 or 5 jocks will be retiring soon and the likes of swt, bowen ,moore etc will be riding more winner ,they wont be anymore capable than they are today but because there riding more winners than there juniours people will be saying x jockey isnt as good as swt etc, funny old game
bit like ch 4 racing channels etc fawning this season over dickie but common sense tells you he isnt as good today as he,s been in the past ,just not taking on mcoy now ,which isnt a reason to judge whether someones a better or worse rider

Ruby Walsh rode the Cheltenham bumper winner at 18 years of age, he rode two grand national winners before his 21st birthday. He was already poetry in motion at that stage in his career, he had a natural talent that comes along about twice a century. Sam Twiston Davies is older than that already and wouldnt lace Walsh's boots now and never will either. Twiston davies is as good now as he ever will be, he has more than enough experience garnered at this stage so saying he will improve is basically a crock of shiite.

Johnson is an excellent jockey, the only British rider who isnt a negative in a championship race at the Cheltenham festival.

I wouldn't trade Johnson in a driving finish for anyone.

doesnt quite make up for the ground he,s lost at the previous 20 fences, maybe a composite of fehily to set the pace, revely to jump the fences and dickie to drive them home, LOL

If its possible, he could be even better over fences than hurdles, hes certainly as good.
Ruby Walsh is probably the best rider of all time over jumps, there have been hundreds of Sam twiston davies.

I think consistency is lacking amongst many jockeys. They are all very capable at times. All capable of great rides, generally when I have layed their mounts!WinkDevil

Can't see anything on this thread that supports the view that STD is on his way out, other than Nicholls having a quiet patch.
Any evidence at all?
