Someone always starts stupid threads like this. A jockey could ride 40 woeful races and then get a winner, and it's guaranteed someone will start a 'where are all the 'insert name here' knockers now' thread.

There's no question, the yard's horses seem to be running a lot better these last couple of weeks. That's welcome news for McCain, his staff, his owners and all true jump racing enthusiasts.
It doesn't however alter the fact that McCain has suffered a major reversal of fortune which started 2-3 years ago and a significant slump in form in October and November. There do not appear to be any horses of quality left in the yard and it's difficult to see how McCain will ever be able to recover the ground that he's lost and return to those heady days when he was being touted as a serious rival to Nicholls and Henderson as leading jumps trainer. |

Even in the days of peddlers overturn and cinders if you looked beyond those horses there wasn't the quality in depth there, since then though the bread and better day to day stuff has dried up also culminating in owner abandonement.

one McCain runner this weekend, once upon a time he would have a runner in every Aintree race.
this deva racing is some outfit, they have a total of ten in training with the Donald, talk about spreading your risk. I do note, all ten are pointers the Donald would have purchased out if Ireland, so he may have kept an interest in each horse, and that may be the stumbling block for removal for the syndicate. mind all ten are mickey mouse midweek horses like the two winners in the last 24 hours. you would need some neck to be trying to sell a syndicate horse out of this yard at the moment. |

Afternoon KL, talking of McCain horses at Aintree, one of his ex inmates runs tomorrow for Oliver Sherwood. Could be anything.

Even in the days of peddlers overturn and cinders if you looked beyond those horses there wasn't the quality in depth there, since then though the bread and better day to day stuff has dried up also culminating in owner abandonement. You left out his Grand National winner too Ballabriggs but I take your main point that he had a few decent ones but never really the strength in depth compared to Henderson and Nicholls. Probably part of that is due to big owners spreading their horses between several trainers and those up north maybe get overlooked a little, so for every Ballagriggs, Cloudy Lane and Wymott Donald McCain got, the likes of Albertas Run, Burton Point, Hedgehunter, Many Clouds and Trabolgan went to other often southern trainers, and McCain himself has even had to compete with other northern trainers like Tim Easterby, Nicky Richards and Sue Smith for horses from big owners like Trevor Hemmings. McCain has had a decent enough level of success with his better class of horses, it's just that he hasn't really had enough of them to further make his mark. Compare that though to how things generally were under his father and Donald Jr seemed to really have brought the yard on during his involvement there. |

Huehuecoytle, the BF that finished 2nd to Donald McCain's second winner today was previously with McCain where it ran once for him and won before being moved on, having previously being well beaten in its other run for James Ewart who also used to own it before the Rooneys.

By:
Reading that article in owner/breeder McCain is more disappointed with the rat Maguire than the Rooneys.
